I'm trying to get down there for the election in December, but I don't know the city and I want to find a hostel of a cheap hotel somplace relatively safe so I don't die. :biggrin:

Anybody know the place well enough to give me some leads?

Uh Caracas?...that is not exactly the safest city in the world. If you do decide to go down there I would suggest you pony up for a decent hotel which are much more secure than some run down hostel.

When I worked down there I stayed at the Hilton in downtown caracas and took cabs if I needed to go anywhere in the evenings. It was quite a surprise the first time the cab I was in flew through a red light because it was to dangerous to stop at an intersection.

My uncle, aunt, and cousins lived there for two years. Its nice if you have the $$, but just don't get kidnapped.
