so, yesterday i went to the bank to deposit some money.. and the cashier told me they were not taking US $100 bills with CB serials...

i was like WTF???????

then tonight I saw the news, and it seems that every bank in the country is refusing to accept those bills... and they said something about a crapload of high quality conterfeit bills coming from Asia (where they did the same thing) and flooding the markets.. of such good quality that its very hard to tell them counterfeit...

anybody knows a thing about that??? anything like that in the news in the US???

i just saw this on bbc, its old but related...

Banks on lookout for counterfeit US$100 notes

By Marc Neil – Jones - Vanuatu Daily Post
Posted Friday, November 26, 2004

Rumours that banks have stopped cashing US$100 bills because too many are in circulation following trips by ministers has been refuted by banks.

The reason for the concerns over US$100 bills is that banks in Vanuatu are on alert for high quality counterfeit US$100 notes circulating around the world that are causing concerns amongst international banking organisations.

Ellen Szeto, the Manager responsible for security Risk & Compliance at ANZ Bank advised, “We are aware there have been some counterfeit USD100 notes presented in some countries and these notes begin with the serial CB and has some of the below characteristics:

1. All the serial numbers start with CB

2. The serial numbers are not on a straight line. Some of the numbers are higher than the other

3. All the notes are 2001

4. They are all mint condition

5. They feel much smoother to the touch than a genuine note, especially by the face of the president However, please note that we are not stating that all USD100 notes beginning with CB are counterfeit notes.”

Meanwhile US$100 notes brought into Vanuatu by ministers and government officials have been used to pay for vehicles in cash and used at the casino to cash in for vatu.

We were unable to cash $100s while in Taiwan last month due to CB serial numbers. There was no problem cashing them once back in the states though.
