Looking at finally getting some hydros to replace my Avid mechs...Even with the 8" rotors, the mechs seem to cause more arm pump than the hydro stoppers I've tried on other bikes...Plus, they were hard to modulate - especially when you're tired...

Anyway, I really would like to get some M-4's, but they're crazy $$$...So I was thinking either El Caminos or Juicy 7's, but saw Avid now has the Juicy 5's out now, and the only difference I could discern was the pad adjustment at the lever...Also couldn't find in the way of reviews, so thought I'd check with the monkeys...Hell, even experience with the 7's would be useful...I've heard the 7's had a bit of an issue with the wavey rotor, but alledgedly that is no longer a problem - dunno...Camino advice would be great as well...

I am looking at those too! everyone i have spoke too said they never use thier red knob and just set them up like a hayes or any other brake. But as far as stopping and modulation I have heard nohting but positive results...they are my next brake fer suuure!! :thumb:

You must not talk to me then...... :)

Ive really liked my brakes. At first i thought they were mushier than i liked, but realize now thats just better modulation. I do use the knob from time to time. If im riding really agressive trails i dial them full out for max "oh s#@t" power, but if im just plunking around on mellow XC, i dial them in closer to the bar for an easier feel. YOu could get away however with just running them in one spot lik ethe 5's. i also found them to be extremly eeasay to bleed with their kit. No mess at all. Setup is also easier/ more true than the hayes on my DH bike... i actually mashined down an adapter to use the avid setup on my hayes caliper.

Just bolted mine on today. The front is squeelin like hell but I am *hoping* thats just break in crap. The rear feels pretty good. The power and modulation is great, the lever feel isn't as good as the hopes they replaced, but I haven't found anything that is. Hopefully the front will shut up though, I bought these because Hopes were too loud.
