In hell. Welcome!
I do pretty much all wrenching on my bikes but this dropper seatpost stuff is lame. My Reverb failed yesterday and likely needs a full rebuild. Just how much trouble am I getting myself into? Between the cost of the service kit and all tools, I wonder if I am not better off getting a new one from the overseas instead...

Hello,

The proprietary tools needed aren't that expensive, but if you lack the, quite comprehensive, basic tools needed it could be a bit expensive I guess.

Check out the Reverb Service documents for the tool list. The tools/parts/stuff you need to source from RS/SRAM are (match your post type and version) as follows:

Reverb Stealth

IFP height tool 00.6815.066.040
Standard bleed kit 00.4318.007.001
Reverb oil 120ml 11.4315.021.070
Reverb grease (Slickoleum) 00.4318.008.001
Full Service kit Stealth A2 11.6818.022.020

Standard Reverb

Oil height tool 00.6815.066.010
IFP height tool 00.6815.066.040
Post bleed tool 00.6815.066.020
Standard bleed kit 00.4318.007.001
Reverb oil 120ml 11.4315.021.070
Reverb grease (Slickoleum) 00.4318.008.001
Full service kit A1 (2010-2012) 11.6818.003.010
Full service kit A2 (2013-2016) 11.6818.021.010

Check you LBS for pricing on those things.

Yeah, it's a lot of steps and a crapload of single-use tools. I'll try some simple hacks first like topping-off oil in the main hydraulic circuit before I take the sucker completely apart.

My temporary fix is an XFusion Hilo. :monkey:
