Anyone ever try an Avy on an SLX?

On Avalanches website it says it can be done, but will require some mods.

Anyone ever try it, and what are the mods specifically?

Thought i'd ask here before I e-mail Craig, cause i'm sure this time of year he is super busy.

I am running that now on a medium frame. The pic on the avy site is my bike. It was a bit of work to get it to fit...

[7 inch setting]
* the shock only fits in the slackest shock mount setting, otherwise it'll rub against the frame.
* With the extra 1/4 inch stroke you get ~7.8" travel, although I never tested this.
* if the seat is down too far in 7" mode you can hit the seatpost with the rear linkage. I run a telescoping setup to avoid this.

[6 inch setting]
* I think it may not rub against the front triangle? I don't remember.
* the extra 1/4 inch strock buys you 6.75" travel, although I never tested this.

[either setting]
* The shock will rub against the front triangle slightly (maybe not in the 6" setting?). You'll need to rotate the spring a bit to lessen the rubbing. Then you'll need to file 1mm off the spring where it rubs. (only in one spot). This means no Ti springs. I'm running a 650 lb spring. If you're running a larger diameter spring it might not work at all!!

* The shock will rub against the seat tube apparatus. I used to 2 washers on each side the seat tube apparatus bolts to the frame. Now it has the clearance .

Setup was a pain, but I love the shock. I ramp up the compression dampening for long climbs, then loosen it up a bit on the descents. It performs great, zero problems with it for DH or FR or XC.

Now that I have an M1 with an Avy, I want one on my SLX. I am sure the performance difference is worth it, just not sure if I want to deal with all the problems this might cause.

Plus it sounds like it steepens the head angle and raises the bottom bracket even more. But I wonder if using the lowest setting nullifies this...

This is not an easy choice. Thanks for your input.

No worries. i dunno about steepening the head angle. The eye-to-eye is the same as a stock progressive or romic, stroke is just an extra .25 inches.
