Anyone from Miami or familiar with the hotels there?

We've got a group of 11 people heading to the Orange Bowl on Jan. 3rd and we're trying to get all the arrangements made before the bowl selection becomes final. We're booking rooms in both Miami and Tempe although it seems a lock that PSU is headed to the Orange Bowl.

I've been told not to stay anywhere near Pro Player stadium but I don't have much else to go on. We'd like to book 3 double rooms with a couple people arriving on Jan. 1 and the rest the morning of Jan. 2. Any advice or info is appreciated. We'd like to keep the rooms under $150/night. We'll have a rental van for getting around but may look in to public transport or hopefully a shuttle directly to the stadium.

Well what is important to you? There is NOTHING by the stadium as far as entertainment. Are you going to want to go out and party during that time? If so staying by the stadium is going to be a crappy option. I would suggest staying some where such as Ft Lauderdale beach or close to downtown Ft Lauderdale if you want to do some partying. Conversly you could also head south and do the South Beach thing (which will be significantly more expensive). There is also Seminole Hardrock Hotel and Casino. You could stay and party there (the nightlife area (not the Casino part) is a good time. Youd be able to easily get to the game.

FYi... I live about 15 miles from the stadium and have lived in this area my entire life.

edit... where are you flying into?

Thanks for the info. My wife and I and possibly one other couple will be flying in on the first (the other couple might be coming on the 2nd) and the best rates are in to Miami but I checked Ft. Lauderdale as well. Does flying in to FLL make it significantly easier to get around? The other 7 will be driving down from Virginia Beach and arriving on the 2nd. We'll definitely want to go to a few bars on the 2nd and pre-game on the 3rd. Any recommendations? I've been to the area before but that was several years ago with a friend that lived in Pembroke Pines. I've lost touch with him over the years but I'm trying to look him up so he can take us for a flight over the everglades. He was an instructor out of Ft. Lauderdale executive airport.

I'll check on the Seminole Hardrock - any other hotels that come to mind? I think the group as a whole would rather keep the trip as cheap as possible so we'll probably avoid South Beach.

Thanks again.

I really try to stay out of Miami-Dade county as much as possible. The Ft Lauderdale airport is closer to the stadium and easier to navigate your way around out of FT Lauderdale vs Miami. When looking at Miami hotels be VERY careful, you could end up in a very NOT nice part of town. Unless you are going to be here on a weekend (which it does not look like you are). I would recommend being close to the beach, so you can at least experience some "touristy" things to do. There are also plenty of places to eat and be social both during the day and in the evening (any night of the week) on the beach.

Check this Best Western
http://book.bestwestern.com/bestwestern/productInfo.do?propertyCode=10212

It is on A1A in Ft Lauderdale, which is an easy cab ride from the airport and walking and cab ride distance to day and evening entertainment. It will be about a 30 minute drive to the stadium (without traffic). Looks like if you have AAA or any basic discount you will be close to your $150p/night.
