I'm thinking of going to Uvic ( university of victory) starting next fall. I have a good bit of familly who live in Vic and I've been there twice for a couple weeks. What I;m wondering is, what kind of a place is it really? Like if you;re going to uni and training... Like my cousin who lives there he's just a huge pot head so from what I've seen it doesn;t have the greatest ppl. I;m hoping I;m wrong. Anyways, what I;m really wondering is would I regret going to Uvic? Any help would be great.

I've got nothing for you. I would say to go to Rice University in Houston.

*I hate Houston and know nothing about Rice, but it came to mind for some reason.

I went to Uvic and it was a great school. It isn't the most exciting city, but it's a good place to go to school. The city is a great size, and very easy to get around. I lived downtown, close to clubs and the ocean, but found it very easy and quick getting up to Uvic. I don't know what kind of riding you're into, but as for freeriding/DH, it sucks. There's one area called the Hartland Landfill (yes that's the real name). It's about a 15min drive from town. You can get a quick XC or freeride fix, but it get's old real fast. There used to be another area about 30 minutes out of town, but they turned it into a golf course. If you have a car and can travel up island, that's where the good riding is. Duncan, Nanaimo, Courtenay, and Port Alberni, etc, have fantastic riding. If you like road riding, then Vic is probably your place. I used to see lots of roadies out every weekend going hard. The city is white white white!! If culture is something you're looking for, this isn't the place. I'm half black, and I think I saw maybe 7 other black people in the 9 years I lived there. If I think of anything else I'll add to this.

LOL it's true it is soooo white... anyways yeah I;m mostly a roadie and triathlete anyways, so it's good for me there. Like I've been to Vic and I found it really boring but you get used to it's slowness and it's pretty chill. I'm just wondering if it's good or bad for going to school. If I do go and hate it I can always transfer.

Well, I grew up in Toronto, so the laid back attitude definitely took some time getting used to. But Victoria is a beautiful city, and you'll love it if you're a roadie. I'd say Uvic was a good school in general. I got an Anthropology degree and my husband took the computer science program. It doesn't have as good a rep as say Queens, for instance, but I'm certainly not complaining about my education. Basically, it's a big enough city to keep you busy, but nice and cheap for a student. And, yes, if you really hate it you could transfer to UBC or Simon Fraser.

Even though i have yet to ride there, i hear there's some great XC riding in Anacortes and also Mt. Constitution on Orcas Island is supposed to be really nice as well. Both ferry rides across the pond into Washington.

My dad moved there a couple of years ago, I LOVE it there, I'd move there in a heartbeat. I need to build a bike up, and keep it there.
If you do end up going, find the good XC stuff, and you can be tour guide when I go. I'm not really into the NS/Stunts stuff, though I do really appreciate the skill it takes. I'm more Mr. XC 30+mile ride guy now.
I do miss living in Montreal though...:)

:thumb: Will do....you might wanna take that back about Montreal, it's been so insanely cold recently. This is the main reason I have to leave here. I;m not a winter type.

If that is how you spell I'm not sure any school will accept you.
