Yeah, look at the 99' DHi and add a new decal set.

But seriously the new bikes are on the gt site.
I guess that says something for the longevity of the bike, huh?!

I had a 2000 DHi and I loved it! My brother actually has it now, and he loves it too. Building a new SRS for it as we speak actually.

I hear alot of people say that they loved their DHI's. What was so great about them? Did they corner well, good suspension, good geometry? And has the cracking problems been solved by now?

I loved mine, too. I thought it was incredibly smooth and agile, but I only got to ride it for one season before I outgrew it. As for the cracking problem, I haven't heard them brag about fixing it, but it could be that they don't want to acknowledge that it was ever a problem.

If you search on 2004 GT in Yahoo, there's some residue of the 04 site with pictures, spec, and geometry. I was checking it out when I was trying to see if I could afford Stiks awesome deals - turns out I was just short...

Lets say that I work in the industry and have a friend at Pacific and I can get a 04' DHi for a very, very good price (that I won't mention). Is it a good bike? Since there is mention of cracking issues, I just want to make sure that the "problem" was fixed. I have narrowed the choice between the GT DHi, a Giant and a Iron Horse, any help would be great!

Cheers,
Brian

From what research i did when i was about to buy one myself, the 2002 had the swing arm / shock mount crack problem, and the 03 liked cracking at the headtub/downtube junction. 04 and 05 i know nothing about tho. Id be happy to hear wether GT DHi's earlier problems have been fixed or not!

from what I saw, from 2003 on the swingarms did not crack near as much....they put some bandaids on the swingarm that seemed to help...those had a gusset near brake mount and different type of shock mount weld area. In my time at GT I never saw a front end cracked-not to say it ever happend, but I never saw it.

Since it sounds like they've resolved the cracking problem, I would go ahead and get it. I prefer the iDrive to the Giant or any other single pivot, but I have never ridden a DH bike with FSR linkage, like the Iron Horse.

Seemingly never helped mine, cracked the swingarm in 7 places after half a summer in Whistler... Hope they come up with a quality bike like that again but with a better construction

I dont think there was anything that made it particularly great, but mine had a Monster T up front and I beat the bag out of it. I just had a lot of fun times on the bike. Its more about the ride than the bike to me, which is kind of ironic given my current position in life...

Good attempt at thread hijack! ;)

Yes you can fit it...you just have to play around with the spacing until you get it right.

If you all had the decision between a demo 8 a demo 9 and a GT what would you pick?

The durability has me questioning things...
if all 3 bikes were on par as far as durability is concerned - I would probably pick the DHi.

but as it stands, if those were my only options - I would get one of the demo's

I raced on a DHi once and I really liked it, pedalled well through the rough stuff too. I only borrowed it for one weekend but got used to it really quickly and had a good race run on it.
As for it cracking... yeah could be an issue.
