I'm looking for picture of a VpFree with a e13 STS/SRS guide installed.

I know I saw someone say that they were running this set up.....

I'm looking to see if you can get proper rotation on the roller to get adequate chain tension. You can't on the DRS....

anyway, anyone got pics?

thanks for any help!

Proper rotation on a SRS isn't insanely important. The big hit doesn't have the exact rotation and it runs perfect. Besides my ghetto cranks.

You know I don't have a chain guide on my vpfree and I have never dropped the chain (as I knock on wood). But I would be stocked to hear and see how others have pulled it off because I was initially told a chain guide wouldn't fit. I have seen pics here and there however so I know it can be done.

I had a vpfree w/ a DRS on it, and it worked perfectly. I dunno about the proper rotation, but the guide never, ever misbehaved.

don't have the bike anymore, thus no pics...

I dont have a picture for you , but you can run an SRS or a DRS on a VP FREE and it works no problem. Actually all of the Santa Cruz dirt demo VP frees at Interbike for the last 2 years have run DRS guides.

I havent seen an STS on a VP Free, but the STS has a littel tighter angle on the back plate than the SRS, so I think that if you wanted to run 36T and a single ring, I would be inclined to try an SRS with a 36T bashring first. Maybe someone else has some more info on this.

Drop Jonas a line at support@e13components.com and he can tell you if he has set this up before.

Hope this helps

DAn-O sent email addy thanks man!

DAve, I dropped Jonas an Email already regarding some of this, I'm sure he'll get back to me fast as always....

edit:
I had sent you guys some pictures in my emails months ago when I got the bike, with the DRS set up best I could, he said earlier on a mtbr thread that this was the most rotation he had seen on a roller on this bike.

I dremmeled all the plastic lip from the roller guard plate to make it flush with the metal back plate. That's how I got it that far. That chainstay is just in the way haha, with it set up like this as soon as you sit on the bike and go through more than half the travel, the chain no longer contacts the roller. As you I'm sure know the vpp design, is designed to be used with a good amount of sag..... (all of this is regarding, the DRS I tried)

Hmmm, can't help with the SRS but I have a DRS on a vp-free and it works great - so long as you have the right bb axle.

The DRS rotates more than enough if you have a longer BB axle, which I want to say is 128mm(?) (I'm having a brain fart right now but I think that's right). The longer axle also gives you a much better chain line than a 118 or smaller.

My truvativ 128 bb came with a spacer for the drive side. What I did was put the spacer inside the DRS plate to move the DRS outboard, giving more clearance. So the order of intallation on the drive side is spacer, drs plate, BB. Works for me.

If you're running a 118 or smaller, will still work - I rode mine that way for a few months last year. The DRS smacks into the chainstay yoke when there is no rider on board (e.g., in a bike stand), so it seems like it's not going to work. But once you put some weight on the bike it works ok, it's just that the plastic part contacts the chainstay yoke when the suspension is extended.

If you've got the 128 and it's not working, something is wrong and it's probably not the DRS.

OG, thanks, I'll have to give'r a go on the DRS, as I was not using the proper spindle length when I initially tried, and assumed that this would be the route to go....

b..b spacer between b.b. shell and guide plate. thanks for confirming that, I had kinda assumed that would work last time I was setting it up, but it wasn't an option at the time (I was trying to use diabalous cranks which will bind, if you try that set up) now I have the truvativ 128 b.b. and race face northshores.....

thanks for everyone's help

I'll get pictures up with the DRS, I'll send em over to you guys at e13 also.... I'll make sure when I order a SRS that's it's one size up from a 36....

now I have to decide whether to order the 66 or a 888

I have a SRS on my VP Free. I only had a 118mm bottom bracket so I could not get good rotation without heavy modification. With a 128mm bottom bracket, the installation is super easy and you get good rotation. This rotation is neccessary to keep good gound clearance. The bommerang will auger into the ground on a hard hit. I had that problem with a team bike that I didn't have the rottion set up correct on. Everytime the 115 pound female rider went off a drop the guide would hit the ground and rotate up into the suspension and jam the cranks. This was due to using too narrow of a bottom bracket and having the angle wrong. Jonas helped me get the angle right and it has worked good since then.

Again, 128mm bottom bracket and you will have no issues.

Cool, it should work fine with your new crank and bb.

I've posted some geometry specs on how the 8" 888 worked out on my free with and without the go-ride lowriders. If you can't find it by searching PM me and I'll try to answer whatever questions you have.

OG I found the thread, I had looked before I appreciate you posting that stuff, the head angle isn't really a concern for me though.....

I think both the 66 and 888 8" would work out fine for me.....

The 66 has alot goin for it in my eyes, but the lack of security of that upper crown makes me leary, I'm just use to looking down seeing a dual crown..... more of a confidence problem than anything, I think.....

the price difference is what has gotten me lookin so hard at the 66.... just can't decide I suck at deciding crap like this...
