I saw an article on it this morning, but I couldn't find any good photos or detailed information. All I know is that it's some sort of internal, or at least derailleur-less, drivetrain. The article made it sound as if it should be available in the near future.

Question.....The article on that southern downhill page said there was less power loss due to the chain always staying in a straight line. Looking at that gearbox makes me think that it twists more.

It doesn't twist at all because the bottom cog is mounted on a splined shaft so it can slide over as it shifts. You can shift while coasting too!
According to Interbike, Hayes has liscensed the right to manufacture it in high quantity.

Saw it this morning, coolest thing I've seen in a while. There is an mp3 of an interview with the inventor. When you think about it the idea is very simple, but man, he's one creative mofo to put it together. Looks really clean and simple. None of this complicated g-box stuff, just the same old goods we are used to in a simple package that hides it all away. Super cool.
