Okay, I have always been a classic/southern rock kind of guy (Its not my age, but my upbringing). Through the years I have gone outside of that to really like bands like Alice In Chains and Drivin and Cryin. But I usually find these by completely stumbling upon them. Take for instance Mars Volta. From this thread I checked out there music online. I am blown away and I can't get enough. I bought their Deloused album, but can anyone else suggest music similar to their sound that I can check out.
If you are lookin for stuff that's a bit on the edge of the "alternative" genre music, definately check out some of the bands on omar and cedric's gold standard label. You may like Rythm Of Black Lines.
At the Drive-In split up about 2 years ago, and from that band came two other bands. One is The Mars Volta, the other is Sparta. I really like Sparta and At the Drive-In, but I'm not a big fan of The Mars Volta. A little too psychadelic for my tastes. Sparta is a bit more heavily-rooted in rock and punk.
Yep like Dog Welder said, use Amazon.com
I go there, type in a group that like, and then follow the links that say,
"The people that bought this also bought _______." Then you can listen to
samples of other stuff, and buy the stuff you like. Its a great way to find info on music that you like. I normally buy them locally though, as long I can find them in stock.
Now Doug, I am trying to picture you at a Skynard concert with a lighter, and yelling "Let's hear some Freebird!"
I can't quite picture it.........
Wait
slowly
Yeah, I just pictured it.
hahahahahahahhahahahaha hahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!
Jeremy, I'll have you know I have seen Skynyrd at least 4 times! Have been in my truck I can't beleive you have a hard time picturing me liking Skynryd, Allmond Brothers, AC-DC, etc. Hello camo seat covers. Check out the picture from my truck last week when I hit that deer.
I am a big Floyd fan, plus I like the middle stuff from Rush and it seems like I hear a lot of that influence in Mars Volta's Deloused album. I tried At the Drive In and the lead singer was WAY too punk sounding for my tastes.
I use Sony's Connect Store for music downloads and they have suggested some bands as well. Tool seems to be a popular link. I liked Tool back in the day, but I haven't heard them much lately.

Holy Crap, I did not know you tagged a deer.
Poor bastard didn't stand a chance running into Big Diesel.
Hope ya get everything fixed up.
And yes, camo seat covers should have been a dead giveaway.
I listened to Hells Bells one time before a race run, and I rode like
it was the last time I was ever gonna.
