Hola, just wondering if anyone has tried this set up, XT levers, Saint calipars and IS rotors 203 or 160mm? Been thinking about tring them or some Juicey 7's. Ive been using Hope Mono M4's lately, but only in a 180 rotor, perhaps I just should get a 203 front setup.

Everyone that wants to run Shimano brakes seems to do it.
AFAIK though, the Saint and XT calipers are different only in the finish, same as the XT and Deore levers, so that could be 2 ways to save some money?

thats right... I currently run the described saint-combo on my heckler, no problem! Some squealing from time to time in the rear, but I strongly doubt that is caused by the combo.

The calipers ARE the same.

It works well. I have a set of Saint calipers + XT levers + Hope rotors on one bike and the same setup except '04 XT calipers on a second bike. The Saint and XT calipers are the same. I made my decision based on availability and the adapter options that you could get at the time.

I have this set up (xt levers saint calipers 6 bolt rotors) and I have tried the 160mm as well as 203 rotors. I have to say they are the best brakes I have used. The power and modulation is very impressive. I also like that you get both resin and metallic pads w/ the brakes, they each offer a different feel. The metallics are very powerful with a strong bite, one finger lock up type of braking. The resin offer less initial bite, but really modulate well. I have had problems with the older xt 4 piston brakes fading and being inconsistent, I have had no problems w/ the new brakes.

I agree with soulrider- older 4pot xt's worked great untill they got hot- I had problems riding above the brakes capability. The saints are the best breaks I have every used. You can lock up the front tire going down 3rd divide on Downeiville riding hard as you can- with one finger. The composite pads offer great modulation- it feels like I have far more controll over the rear tire. Metalic in the front for power! Both modulate well for me- feels like you have great controll over all that braking force. Best upgrade for my bike since tubless....

• There are "Saint" marked XT level stand-alone levers for '05
• The IS 6-bolt 160/203mm rotors are still available for '05
• There is also a XT level, no-name 9-speed RapidFire pod set in black or silver for '05
• Hone calipers are similar to Saint but cheaper (don't know performance)
• Hone 203mm rotors use the smaller interlok spline STD (like XT/XTR etc, unlike Saint)

So basically Shimano is making it all much more inter-compatible for '05...

Thanks everyone for repling, I think I might try out this setup and compare them with the M4's. I tried a simular setup at Ibike on a Intense Uzzi XVP and that is why Im considering this combo. I really liked the feel and there was no Hope Howling that I get on mine. The only difference is the the Uzzi had XTR calipars.

Well I'm using the said combo. And like everyone else I'm loving the power and the modulation. I used to wonder wtf is wrong with hayes before I had these brakes. Now I know! These are the bomb. Stop dreaming and lay down tha cash.
