anything wrong with this build?

It's time to replace my frame, maybe my bike. I've got an 05 Jamis Quest that has served me really well. I had a little run in with an oblivious driver a couple summers ago, and the bike hasn't felt right since.

I've got 2 options, but this thread only deals with one of them - the complete replacement of my Quest. I'm a weekend warrior who doesn't race, doesn't need anything fancy, just something comfortable. But, I can get some SMOKIN' deals through work, thus the high end frame with mid-level build.

So, with all that said, anyone see any issues with this build?

Frame - Seven Cycles Odonata
Fork - Seven Cycles carbon
Drivetrain - Ultegra
Wheelset - FSA RD420
Post/Bars/Stem - FSA SLK
Headset - Chris King
Tires - Michelin Pro 3 grip
Misc - the usual tubes, bar tape, cables, etc.

It all seems pretty straight forward, but I've never bought a bike I haven't seen/ridden first. My build/measurements are all very typical, so I'm not OVERLY concerned about needing some special frame geometry so that the thing fits me just so. Plus, I don't log that many miles.

Is this the new Ultegra 6700, or the older stuff?

I'm not a huge fan of FSA wheels. Nothing wrong with them, but Shimano or a built-up set are so much better I think.

Hey stranger...long time no post!

I personally don't see any issues, but I am like you--a weekend warrior/commuter--and don't really get into the higher end parts either. I like the look of the Seven's though. No chance of riding one prior to buying?

I second the wheel comment. I'd round out the build with either the Ultegra 6700 alu clinchers, or the bling RS-80's (which aren't much more).

I can't get the ultegras, only DA from shimano, and they put me over my budget. Thoughts on Mavic stuff... 09 Ksyrium Elites? Other suggestions?

I have a set of 09 Ksurium Elite wheels. I used them for training on a mix of road, gravel, and the occasional singletrack. They've held up to the abuse well. They lack the bling factor, but will get the job done.

i'm a Mavic fan so that's my obvious choice for wheels. up until i sold my Wojcik i had Heliums on it but i would have prefered my old Open Pro CD's. more spokes but the ride was more comfortable. is the Seven going to be a custom geo? i've spoken to more than a few who had problems with the fit after talking to Seven in the interview process. other than that, i think the parts spec is just fine for what your doing. are you going Ti or Steel?

Ksyriums are very good, but if you walked into the shop, told me what you've posted here, I'd probably try to put you on Mavic Open Pros with Ultegra hubs and call that good. They're bombproof, not that heavy, certainly no where close to race weight, but fine for what you're doing, it's easy to fix them if something goes wrong, and they're not that expensive. Pretty much perfect.

Have you weighed a set of Ultegra/OP 28h wheels with Revolution spokes? You are looking at something in the 1200-1300 gram range. That is wicked freaking light.
Honestly, no. Thought they'd be a little over that, but damn, that's cool.

How? The rims are 435 g each with the front ultegra at 140 g and the rear at 347. That's already over 1300 g w/o spokes or nipples.

Not possible at all. I have some 415s with a DT 190 rear and they are just over 1400 with Sapim butted spokes. There is not way OPs with Ultegras weigh that with Revos. Not even 1x.

That makes a lot of sense. I was surprised at that number too.

I guess I'm a crappy weight weenie though to not be able to call him on it straight off. :D
