i've heard of adding a little water along the area that id be working on, placing decals on wet frame and moving this decal along to desired spot and let sit to dry. would this work without f'in the decal addhesive??

Hmm, I've never heard of using water. I had to put new decals on my Dean a few months back. My strategy was simple, cut down the sticker backing as much as possible, and apply a little at a time. I think this is one of those things where there is no substitute for taking one's time. Good luck!

Prep and clean the area first, then make sure it is dry. Use isopropyl alcohol and wipe down the tube, then let it dry and wipe it down again two more times. Try to use a paper towel or lint free cloth to dry.

Before you take the backing off the decal, line it up to where you want it on the frame, then take a dry erase marker and put some dots on the frame to use as reference points for the decal.

You can use a spray bottle with distilled water(mixed with a drop or two of dish soap) on the frame to help move the decal into place. Just use a light mist to cover that area of the frame, then finalize your decal placement. Keep in mind, you don't want too much water, just a light mist. If you mess up just take the decal off and mist the area again.

Once you have the decal set where you want it. Take a dry sponge (try to use a new sponge) and press it against the decal, going from the center of the decal to the outer edges. This will squeegee out the extra water still sitting under the decal.

I agree. You hit all the major points. Preparation is just as important as the act of applying the decal. You might want to use a razor blade to squeeze bubbles out and/or make little cuts if you have to go around any compound curves. BE CAREFUL, DO NOT CUT YOURSELF, razor blades are sharp and when you're dealing with soapy water it gets even worse.
