Are any of you guys ever feel like you're 'cursed' when it comes to bike parts??

I know over the last couple years I've had trouble with suspension. One end never seems to work properly. 2 years ago my S7 sucked but my RockShox SuperDeluxe on my Giant DH bike worked well...even after bottoming it out every 2 minutes! I took the next season off and now this year, my S7 is working beautifully but my rear suspension is leaking, not working...etc.

Anyone having chronic problems with anything?

my rear wheel normally doesn't last more than 3-4 months on my fr hardtail. xc wheelset that i had on my trail bike finally gave up after 3 years of hard riding.

fr wheelset built up really strong cost about $500
xc wheelset $100 from jenson

go figure

It's always one thing or another. Last year I kept breaking derailleurs and rear wheels. This year I can't keep air in my tires. Tubless has helped a bunch but it has its own problems.

I'll be sending my shock back again, I sent it in for service as the rebound adjuster didn't do anything and the shock was topping out, I got it back with some shiny new parts a few days ago but the rebound adjuster still does nothing and the shock still tops out. I've had several problems with the same shock over the last year. A while back I had flats like mad, I tried everything from tire liners to slime and still got flats, moving out of that area and away from goathead thorns and viscious rock gardens seems to have helped.

i think you're just cursed chris

i've had a good year, especially considering a totally custom bike with no real problems. And my evil EX823s havent blown up, nor raped and pillaged the neighbourhood as predicted by some.

dont tell me that loaner Fox RC is leaking? cus i can lend you my spare if needed.....after i take a really close look at how your shock eating linkage is setup :sneaky:

Your face.
I just think you make bad choices.

I mean think about it, a Stratos S7 and a romic? What did you expect? Stratos was never known for making the S7 as the pinnicle of suspension forks, and Romic has a well known problem...

Brakes and I never get along. Vees, Hopes, Avid Mechs...all problems of some sort or another. Hayes seem to work best for me, but even my brand-new Mags came with a bad caliper/nipple interface...had to warranty them out of the box, because fluid spewed from the threads of the nipple as I tried to fill the dry brakes up. Hopefully, they stay as trouble-free as possible after that debacle.

No, you just buy a new $6,000 bike every month and never ride it... :)

I ride with people who ride harder, but break less parts?

Last 3/4 days at Keystone I've had 2 bent Azonic World Force bars and 1 bent Truvative Hussefelt.

Then there's my chronic oil puking right leg of my super T, still can't figure that one out... :help:

No broken derailleur yet this year, and no blown wheelsets(jinx)

Maybe some people are just manglers?

Well...isn't it?

And I've had my Turner through your Helius, UFO, 1 2TMX, Nucleon, and M-Pire...yeah, my hardtail situation was a little screwed, but that's because I made a mistake and bought that f'in Woodman when my 1st BMXtb was damaged (and if I'd have known FTW could have fixed it before I ordered the new frame, I'd still be on it!).

I don't have bad luck with parts......

I have crappy skills. No reason to blame an inanimate object and give it a magical power....you all just suck at riding. :D Stop blaming the parts. lol

I had a lot of trouble setting up my first set of hydros (hayes) this season and broke a lot of **** back to back to back 3 weekends in a row. After that they worked flawless for my whole cross country trip in july and i must have ridden 20-25 days of that month.

I destroyed my sram shifters on my trip then destroyed the replacement deore within 2 days.

Thats about it for this season besides small things.

Yeah this has been a funky year for me. Bunch of drivetrain hassles - can't seem to ride hard without messing up my rear der or hanger or both, and have DRS issues too. Also seems like every time I crash I mess up a brake lever, even though I've got em loose enough I can move em with my hand. Bent rotors too, of all things. But only one flat so far this year...ahhh, stupid, way to jinx myself...

The Fox is fine...that chattery feeling is annoying though.

You've always had issues with your Hayes brakes right?

Just bent my handlebars slightly in a crash a few days ago... not to metion I smashed my pinky and the right middle finger when my two fingers somehow slipped and got wedged between the handlebar end and the rock. :dead:

Thank god for those uber padded Fox gloves!

Yeah, it depends for me. Two years ago, I had problems with rear shocks (blown out 3 shocks, 1 Pro Deluxe and 2 of the same air shock & had to get new seals). Last year, it was wheels. Destroyed two rims. This year, its the shifters, clipless pedals, and tires that are giving me **** but so far, still holding up. I've blown out 3 panaracer tires (all of them have BIG A$$ holes) thanks to the rocks, thorns, and other sharp objects that are out there. :mumble: I have now sold the tires to my buddies for commuting purposes... I keep riding (ghetto if possible, i.e., tape or extra screws from hardware store to keep it together) until the parts are no longer functional. :D

only on the rear and since the master cylinder and line change. There must be a micro leak somewhere because its fine after a quick top up but then re-occures after a few weeks. They work fine though, just the lever position will start to move further in after awhile.

I cracked a frame, killed two cranks. I don't think its curse, just the underpants gnomes having some fun at my expense.... ;)

The Voodoo hex on me is presta valve stems, I've snapped the little needle on 3 tubes recently.

What do you mean by that? 2000-2002 Stratos was the sh*t and the total bandwagen part back then, and actually they had the open bath while most were still using cartrages. They were kinda ahead of there time and made a great product back then. It was poor customer service that killed them.

yup, ahead of their time, like 3 piece bolted together lowers, leaky seals and unreliable carts. God knows no one else had a well made, reliable and good performing fork back then, way back in 2000-2002 .....

I'm the bottom bracket breaking master. Last year alone, I raped, killed, and destroyed four Truvativ DH isis bb's. Granted, they were installed on the hardtail, and had a bent left crank arm attached to it.

Thats funny the MX6 was a very popular and good fork as was the S8. I know several people that have never had a problem with their S7 for that matter.

We're getting a little off topic here...

In the end, there are going to be people that hate certain things and people who like those same things. A good example is the Boxxer, or Hayes brakes. ;)

yeah, they were popular because they used to have kick-ass service and were cheap, which was pretty much required. I could never understand the huge bandwagonism behind these products that seemed to overshadow the amount of problems vs. the major fork makers despite their small numbers.

Before Ridemonkey and hcor even existed, MTBR had the biggest Stratos cheerleader squad ever. Then when the CS went bunk, it was like looking at a bunch of junkies screaming and scrambling for a fix and the dealer had cut them off.

Bad CS doesnt kill a company, bad products that require constant CS can kill a company, especially if the last line of defense is terrible too.
