There are a ton of 29er tire choices.

WTB has about 4 or so different models
Maxxis has a couple
Kenda
Michelin
Panaracer
IRD (a version of the Panaracer FireXC
IRC
Geax
Specialized
Schwalbe

And I've probably forgotten a few too.

And I would think that SoCal would be home to a ton of 29ers. Are you anywhere near the Path bike shop? is that in Socal?

The Path Rocks! I got passed up by a mudhunny on a 29r in Sycamore Canyon, San Diego a few weeks ago. Got a buddy of a buddy that rides an inbreed. There out there and they're fast!

the path is in socal, but it is down OC way and bnc is up near me in LA.

BNC, i got a crew of dudes that ride on saturdays. we often do sullivan canyon. you should head out with us. we are on two-six rigs, but i'd love to check out the 29. i may have to break down and get one. if you let me throw a leg over, it might just be the final straw.
