In case Trump's racism isn't overt enough.

Can the wacky right republicans stop trying to game the system by conflating public image with political leadership and direction? Move a bit to the middle, stop being a bag a dicks, and admit that this cuntry is moving in a more moderate and liberal direction. It must be infuriating to be a republican who is closer to center in this age. Begrudgingly voting on party lines for some turd who barely checks the box for being a party candidate. I mean, that’s how I’m gonna feel voting for not-trump

Only socially. We've been on a fiscally conservative track towards bankruptcy and doom since that gipper john Wayne wannabe.

But that was also the beginning of exactly what you're talking about. The gop, wants actors, not actual leaders.

Personally I'm more sick of electing heirs to someone else's fortunes. The last two shits squirted out the anus of the RNC get to pass off this fantasy of being businessmen when all they ever did was fail upwards. Carlson would be the third via the swansens empire.

David Frum was a guest on the Making Sense podcast with Sam Harris (episode #206) talking about his turn away from trump and being a republican. He speaks to the conservatives move to game the system instead of change their policy. It’s a decent listen.

Wouldn't it be nice if we could look in the rearview as a way of identifying elements of experiments that didn't work, so we can revise the model to function better going forward, instead of using them as weapons to bash the entire party of the guy behind the idea from 50-100 years ago?

Holy shit, the cell phone was expensive and barely functioning, and didn't sell well in the 80's? Guess we're done with that whole thing.

I took our er jerbs.

Anyone thinking that massive system reform like environmental regulations, health care, or taxation can be brought up, implemented and deemed successful in one, or even two, presidential terms is fucking delusional. Particularly knowing that there's a coin-toss likelihood that the next president will be from the opposite party and woking to dismantle any legislation enacted. You know how success happens in organizations? By minimizing the fumbles in the hand-off.

None of the members of the Japanese team has a sub-10 time for the 100, but their precision in the handovers gives them an advantage of teams that have faster athletes but inferior technique.

@eric strt6 latest post in the trump presidency thread feels strangely related. A reminder perhaps, that one doesn't necessarily destroy an institution over night either.

Federal officials arrested Ohio House Speaker Larry Householder and four others on Tuesday morning in connection with a $60 million bribery case.

U.S. Attorney David DeVillers' office would not discuss details of the case, but a source involved in the investigation confirmed Householder's arrest to The Enquirer.

Also arrested, according to the source: Neil Clark, founder of Grant Street Consultants and once called by USA Today “one of the best-connected lobbyists in Columbus;” former Ohio Republican Party chair and consultant Matthew Borges; Juan Cespedes, co-founder of The Oxley Group in Columbus; and Jeffrey Longstreth, adviser to Householder.

A spokeswoman for DeVillers said an Ohio official and associates were charged in the case, which she described as a "public corruption racketeering conspiracy involving $60 million." DeVillers has scheduled a 2:30 p.m. press conference to discuss the case.
