Landed hard yesterday off the concrete slab kicker on the wimpy side of the flow park and felt a nice pull of my calf muscle.Went to doctor this morning and you guessed it, Slight tear. No riding for min of 4 weeks and no jumping for at least 6 weeks. Plus he reccomends that i get a squishy if i am going to jump or drop. He says the suspension will suck up the impact of the landing and keep the force off my legs. He also told me that if i do continue to jumping on a hardtail and land hard, that i could end up tearing a tendon and be out for upto a year. This sucks.

thats why I don't like doctors. they aren't about fixing the problem but covering it up with silly things like drugs and full suspension frames. :D

sucks you got hurt, glad to hear it wasn't worse.

do you stretch at all before you ride? and after?
that drop off the cement on the left side isn't even that big is it? (I'm not real familiar with that park area...)

Danny way has these problems.
He has had:
Torn ACL
Cadavers ACL (torn)
and now a NYLON ACL TENDON!!!
Spend a few billion and get a carbon fiber muscle. It would be hella light!!

It's pretty small, but the landing is right up against the lip, and it's short.
In effect it can be like 10' to flat.
I usually take the kicker onto it's landing though.

Ouchie, I hurt my calf muscle two years ago and it sucked! It took a full 4 weeks before I could ride without hurting. :(

Good luck and happy healing.

doc may be onto something. have to ask yourself...is having hardtail pride worth ruining riding and numbering the days on a bike? if doc says go FS, get a 2nd opinion...why not visit a sports medicine specialist...

i was a die hard hardtailer and started to really hurt myself...i took a queue and now have some spring in the rear...makes my days bareable, my body hurt less, and I know I will be riding more years than if i was hard-headed and full of hardtail pride :)

heal up man! how many winters are this nice for bikers!!

Woah. that sucks! I was wondering where you disappeared to the other day. Did you do that on the run I followed you down on? See, if you would've just skipped over to the right lines, you'd have been fine!
Next time you are down there, take a few runs with my bighit. Full squish makes the landings a lot smoother.
Hopefully, you won't be out as long as the doctor says.

James- I did it on Sunday. I would not mind trying your big hit next. I was just pissed that i could do that drop before i tore out my shoulder 18 months ago.

As for hardtail pride, Yea i like the HT but more for the learning. You can feel things on an HT then you can't on an FS. I a have always believed that if you can become fluid on a HT you will be twice as fluid on a DS. Hope to be back soon. Thanks for the support
