So Cal
I agree with everything except the temps. 120+ degrees is inhumane. I don't give a crap about the temps in Iraq.

Everything else sounds like a good idea. If you don't like it, don't commit crimes!

The fact that most prisons allow smoking, pornography etc is insane. What the hell is wrong with the prison system?

If you find a post where I even mention the ACLU, I'll give you 100 dollars. You should try harder.

Of course prison was all roses before Sheriff joe came along.
Hint- making jail even more unpleasant does nothing to reduce crime.

so does that mean it should remain pleasant then? (cigs/cable tv/porn/etc)

they have chosen to act outside the norms of civilized society why the f should they have any comforts from it???
Prison was never pleasant, that's the point. This sheriff is just a grandstander who only has his own best interests at heart.
Doesn't your constitution have something to say about cruel and unusual punishment?

Denying them drugs and porn is cruel and unusual? Providing educational opportunities is cruel and unusual?

If I'm not mistaken I can remember hearing that the recidivism rates of those released from Sheriff Joes care is significantly lower than what it was previously.

That's not what I'm talking about, though I can't see why prisoners shouldn't be able to smoke if they use their own money. All this does is create yet another black market in prison especially considering how easy tobacco is to acquire. I bet more than a few prison workers are making out like bandits thanks to sheriff Joe...I'm sure he'll get their votes.
I don't care about the porn thing but denying magazines full stop? What's the point other than pure bastardry?
The educational oppurtunities are probably the only nugget of good in his whole pile of crap.

I'd be interested to see if that is true. Could just be a case of the criminals moving elsewhere though.
