Army: Service Must Cut Combat Tours

"The cumulative effects of the last six-plus years at war have left our Army out of balance, consumed by the current fight and unable to do the things we know we need to do to properly sustain our all-volunteer force and restore our flexibility for an uncertain future," said Gen. George Casey, chief of staff of the Army.
What a bunch of pussies.

They should just send more National Guard over there.

Then tap into local police and fire departments.

Governor tells Pentagon to return Guard gear

Zachary Coile, Chronicle Washington Bureau

Tuesday, February 26, 2008
(02-26) 04:00 PST Washington --

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger told Bush administration officials Monday that he is tired of the Pentagon treating the California National Guard like a stepchild by using its equipment in Iraq and Afghanistan without returning or replacing it.

The Republican governor, in a visit to Washington for the annual meeting of the National Governors' Association, said the California National Guard is missing about half of its equipment - from humvees to radios. That could leave California at risk in an earthquake, fire or other emergency, Schwarzenegger said.

Old joke...

The Air Force guards their gates with attack dogs.

The Navy uses Marines.

Why?

The Air Force got first pick.

We had a contract lapse, new minority owned company jumped in. (Same employados...different shirts) Now they have announced the GS-ification of the gates. New company will get about 5 months out of it. Sucks to be them...
The "avg sf troop" is usually just waiting for some c*ck sucking Navy queer to come along and act like he knows everything. So the SF troop can ignore the Navy morons inane ramblings, and tell him to get back to his boat. The Marines need someone to do their laundry...

What I find most interesting about that story is that it is a story at all. The crux of the reporting is that here is a guy who is rich but is going to go to a war zone anyway. The implication being that most rich people would not do so, maybe even that it is hard to believe that someone who had just won $1million would do so. Which further implies that being part of the military is not valued that highly in most parts.

most rich people are not 18-35 y.o., and those who are tend to be athletes, actors, and other sorts who are into themselves.

He is honoring a commitment he made to his unit, his comrades and his country. I find that cool...

Plus, it will take awhile for the $$ to come in anyway, may as well stay busy. And to buy a home in the Mt Spokane area, a decent one anyway, he will need the juing.

Ok, maybe they need ditch diggers, even rich ones. Back in the day they would have processed him out. But troop level being what they are, they might keep him.

if we had millionaires in the military, wouldn't this contribute to the "problem" of underemployment? it's good for the economy to get welfare moms in the corps
