AS-X chainline issues

My Yeti AS-X is being a real pain in terms of shifting--no matter what I do, it only shifts without skip a gear in about three to four gears, and that's even a little sketchy at times. I've been ignoring it, hoping that it would go away once the new shifter cable broke in, but it hasn't changed. So now I'm pretty sure that it must be a chainline issue--do any of you other AS-X riders have that same problem? I run the old-style XTR cranks/bottom bracket, but I also did on my last bike, and had no problems with the chainline. Should I see if a good mechanic could take care of the problem?

I am building an ASX with a 118 x 73E I think that's the right BB for the bike

I'll let you know how it goes in a few days.

What's the spindle length on the XTR? Is your der. hanger bent.

other things, while the chain won't really shift further than the smallest rear cog, you still want to have your limits set properly, this makes a pretty big difference. Also, how old is the bike? If it's more than 6 months, rip out all the lines and housing, put new lines and housing in there, and ask for "Dry-Slide" at your bike shop. This stuff works wonders at reducing friction, and is applied to housing and cables. Then check things like B-tension, cassette trueness and tightness, and the straightness of the derailer. Your bike shop has tool that allows you to check the dropout (and straighten if necessary). Trust me, when things "look good" they are often not, and the tool that checks for the trueness of the dropouts can reveal a lot that the naked eye can not.

These are tips for the event that a different BB spindle width does not fix the problem.

If the skipping is across the whole cassette, it isn't a chainline issue most likely.

Sounds more like the limit screws need to be adjusted.
