Seriously, you need to.
I ain't gonna touch the DH bike after the Windrock race,
and I can show you a ton of trails in Pisgah.
I say we vote Doug in right now as our new 3rd leg for our winter Pisgah jam sessions. If I can get Drexel back into fighting shape, we can really put him to the test.

Rule of induction...if Drexel passes you on a descent, you gotta drink from the creek with him at every crossing. I think I hear him talking trash as I type this! :thumb:

Rumas?

Never heard of that one, do you mean Romero Canyon? Is this trail on the front side or in the back country?

Nothing wrong with a lil' shuttling here and there especially when you are a guy who's been climbing since well before most people ever thought of the concept of shuttling. Probably because there were no true "DH bikes" and "long-travel" bikes got a FULL 3" front and rear! I still "earn my turns" way more than 75% of the time, but I do love to shuttle now and again.
THat is what it sounded like (Rumas, Romas, something like that). Its not really out in the backcountry, IMO. It rides just along the mountains overlooking Santa Barbara... its right off of a desolate hwy, if I can recall correctly ( ). The trail is a figure 8 and begins as a long fireroad then it turns into singletrack. It continues as a long climb along the side of the montain and you get pretty smoking views of SB below. I was recommended by a local at a MTB shop in downtown SB, and I found that this trail rocks. A long a$$ kicking climb but the descent is way off the charts cool. The bottom is fairly technical for a XC biker - lots of rocks, etc.

I am horrible at remembering names... :(

lay off the pipe! :D

probably Romero, was it a few miles of fire road climb that tapered down into a singletrack climb for a few more miles before splitting and taking you right back down the canyon to fire road just above the trailhead?

either way, all the SB trails are great

looks like Romero! Is that date correct? if so you were just there and you already forgot.

The thumbnails are for when you attach an image (RM's server) The way you did it is better anyway (on yours or an outside server).

damn that pic is making me miss SB bad.

I've still got a scar from that place. Not from actually riding/falling on the trail but bumping into the metal gate you go around after pedaling back up the paved road. I was in such a dazed bliss I plowed my shoulder right into one of the poles. Wheeeeeeeee
I was up in the Black Mountain area with my wife back in June and just for ****s and giggles I decided to ride down the old paved road. I was wishing I had a big ring b/c I topped it out but it was actually a lot of fun flying down thru those curves! semi-Paved DH!! What wasn't fun was climbing Mills Creek Road to get back to the truck

Uh yea, my whole point was that I hit the gate at the bottom of the hill, it's a real tight fit and I tried to squeeze thru it going about 20 and knocked the crap out of my arm......those things don't give

Yo Kidwoo,
I gave a shout-out to your scar yesterday, as I pedaled by that sign.
Yep, that's right, we rode Kitsuma and it was as sweet as ever.
Nothing has really changed except there a few too many tire tracks at the bottom, and a few alt. trails at the bottom as well.
But yeah, still the same great ride.

A couple of notes:
This trail should NEVER be shuttled. For one, it is so sweet, it should be taken better care of than that. Also, all you need on this trail is a 4 to 5 inch trailbike and its perfect. Butch charged it on his hardtail. Actually, my 5 inch fork was a pain in the azz climbing up all those switchbacks.
But the main reason it should not be shuttled is because it would be really dumb. The climb out is a middle ring spin on broken pavement.
Even if you shuttle it, you still have to push your DH rig up at least 2 miles of straight up singletrack. You would be less tired if you just pedaled.

like i said befor ill shuttle and you can climb the road i dont care just as long as your out riding. we really dont like to hit kitzuma on big hit bikes but we still do just cause i have a 2 inch xc rig thats not good at all for kitzuma rough ass ride and the only other option is the dh rig. and i do my best to not tear up that trail cause i know how i feel about that trail and how other people love that trail. also we dont always have the time to not shuttle it.so sometimes we have to if we want to squezz a ride in.

I wanna throw a big thank you to the dude that cut back the rhodedendrons on the bottom half of the mountain. my elbows and forearms thank you tremendously.

We chased a big, wooly black dog for close to a full mile on one of the descents. He finally got away when we came to a quick little uphill. Not sure if he was running with or from us, but he was COOKIN!

If and when I get a 5 Spot, we're gonna take on Heartbreak Ridge.

screw the haters man. i'll shuttle it. seems like people are dogging on shuttling cause it tears up the trail!what the hell is the logic behind that? i dont skid down the thing i dont go around the puddles and i dont run gangs of 10 idiots down it. i have also climbed it well over a dozen times and do not feel it necessary to justify my manhood. i have actually pushed my old foes dhs tube up that hill on its back wheel because my front brake locked up. all the way up the hill holding it up on the back wheel.

Honestly, I could care less.
Its not my trail.
I was simply pointing out that you have to be at least semi-retarded to want to shuttle that trail with a DH bike.
Pushing a full on DH rig up that steep 3 mile climb, so you can ride a trail that is more suited for a small bike.
Push away.
Actually, I agree that I would probaly do less damage to the trail on my Dh bike simply because I would go faster and brake less, but that still does not mean I would want to push to the top of that joker.
But hey, its a free country, and you could drag a super monster down it if you'd like.
