So i finally spoke to my doctor about it. Had my third attack on Saturday this year. My attacks aren't that bad, so I hadn't bothered about it. But I had to bail at mile 60 of 80 and was really bummed.

He gave me an inhaler (Abuterol?).

Any you :monkey:s had to deal with an inhaler? Do you always shoot up before you ride, just occassionally, or do you wait until you start feeling your lungs have an issue?

JHFC dud, I've never gone near 60 miles. WTF? I'd need an inhaler too. My wife has asthma. She don't do 60 miles though. However a shot or 2 before any ride and she's fine. I have one in my camelback just in case. Be careful with that sheite man. Too many hits off that and ya frickn beata will pop outcha chest yo :mumble:

I use albuterol too, my asthma used to be really bad, it's really mellowed down now. I also take flovent daily (2 puffs at night), and the albuterol is only for attacks. I haven't needed it for a ride, but i always carry it with me. If i feel something coming on, 3 hits takes care of it before i even feel uncomfortable.

thanks y'all. My doc did tell me how to use it -- two hits before I start out and can take two more 3-4 hours later, if need be.

I didn't think to ask him, but does your body build a tolerance to this stuff?

And Knuck, it is 60 miles on the road, so it doesn't really count :D

I too have asthma. As with pretty much anything, your body will build up a tolerance if you use it too often. That said, I'd try to limit my use to when I honestly need it, not just "because." In my experience, 3 puffs at once is a lot. My doctor gave me similar 3-4 hour advice the last I recall. He told me that it can take a few minutes for it to kick in, so don't take too much at once.
