Dancin' over rocks n' roots!
At long last I am posting some of our pictures from Whiteface. A group of us traveled up to Whiteface for a long weekend and good times were had. :dancing:

Attendees: TreeSaw, Squirrel (non-monkey), Tweek, Crashby, Gee-Spot, Mtbkngrl, Bella (our fearful guard dog) Ghettorigged, Squid & Sorge (non-monkey).

The Details: Gee-Spot & Mtbkngrl were a bit excited and got there early (on Wednesday I think), but Squirrel, Squid & I went up early on Thursday morning to get some riding in. The trails were a little muddy, but good times were had (as well as lots of falling down). Unfortunately, I didn't bring the camera along on day 1 ('cause I knew how much I would be crashing), but Mtbkngrl got some sweet shots that she will hopefully post. I managed to hit a couple of rock drops (little ones) wrong and busted my seat, so it was an interesting run down the mountain. The nice fellows at the bike shop hooked me up with a loaner and more riding was had. After 3 runs, we were beat and decided to go cliff jumping to cool off at the Flumes. This place was awesome. There were several different sized cliffs to jump off of into the Ausable River. I didn't get any pics of people jumping, but Gee-Spot did and will hopefully post a few. After swimming, Ghettorigged found us and we returned to the house we rented to get some food (chicken vino bianca, salad & fettuccini…mmmmmm  ) Just as we were finishing dinner, Crashby & Tweek arrived and had some food too and the bike work began. Tweek managed to do a lot of bike maintenance for a lot of people while sipping away at his tastey potato vodka :thumb:

Day 2 (Friday): Rain!!!! :mumble: First order of business…breakfast (egg sandwiches) then it's load up and hit the mountain!!! Despite the rainy conditions, Tweek, Squirrel & I hit the mountain whilst the rest of our comrades went to the flumes. We took 2 sketchy runs down and I had 2 big crashes in a row, so I decided to sit out the 3rd run to inventory my body and get some food. Good call for me 'cause it started pouring just as the guys were getting to the top of the mountain. Needless to say, it was a hurtful, muddy run that ended our day before we broke something. Off we went to the house to get cleaned up and eat speedies :D Then it was a trip to the bike shop in Lake Placid to get some cliff bars for the next day of riding and some new brake pads too (they didn't have any Hayes disc brake pads  ). Later that night, while we were all drinking some tastey brews, and watching the TDF, Sorge surprised us all and walked in the back door. He's always fun to ride with so we were quite pleased…plus, we all got to see his sweet new ride (Preston).

Day 3: First order of business…breakfast (egg sandwiches) then it's load up and hit the mountain!!! The entire crew hits the mountain for a beautiful day of riding. There were some good runs and some not-so-good runs (I crashed quite bad and took a while to make it down the mountain on our 3rd run but managed to suck it up and take a 4th run after some lunch). Then it was off to the flumes again where it was a bit too cold for swimming but not intimate moments for campers (how classy  ), but some :monkey: s did so anyway and group pics were taken (Gee-Spot…please post some). Then, back to our lovely house for some tastey dinner (chicken alfredo, salad, homemade garlic bread & wine), many tastey beverages and more TDF.

Sunday was pack it up and head home, but not before we watched Lance win his 6th TDF!!!!

Good friends and good riding…always = good times!!!! Thanks again to Gee-Spot & Mtbkngrl for arranging our little vacation…we can't wait to do it again!!!!1 :D

Now for a few pictures, but as I said before Gee-spot got some good ones too that I hope she will post too!!!:

To the mountain we go

This is a really cool shot that Squirrel took of me on Saturday

Here's a shot of the group mid-way down the mountain taking a breather (ok…they were waiting for me to come out of trail #26 – which was quite a tough trail by the way) ;) From left to right TreeSaw, Ghettorigged, Gee-Spot, Tweek, Sorge, Squid, Mtnbkrgrl & Crashby (front).

Bella, our fearless guard dog, had a tough day and needed a nap…isn't she cute

Off to the flumes

The flumes! This is the tallest cliff that Squirrel, Mtbkngrl & Gee-Spot jumped off (yes, their crazies)

Who owns that Baja and how do they like it? Cool photos Treesaw - I viewed em as a slideshow in the Gallery. :)
Mtbkngrl owns the Baja and I get the impression that she doesn't really like it. Bikes don't fit in the back and the DH bikes are REALLY wobbly on top. :(
I personally like the new gallery. I was going to post the link, but thought of it after the fact.

Did you get photos of Sorge's Preston FR??? How does Sorge like it?? I've had my eye on that frame as of late, but have only seen one at Jiminy Peak - the owner had nothing but good things to say about it. And it looked pretty damned well built too.

Unfortunately, no. He seemed to like it a lot, but it was his first ride on it. I believe he may be coming to :monkey:fest and I am sure he will be bringing it along if he does make it!

Is he on the monkey? If not do you communicate with him via email? If so, can you ask him for a review and then shoot it over to me?

Muchos Gracias

You will be at Monkeyfest right?

He's not on the :monkey: but I do chat with him via e-mail occassionally. I'll ask him for the info and pass it on.

Squirrel & I will be at Monkeyfest. We're planning on getting there early Friday (hopefully noonish).

Nice :thumb: He hasn't really ridden it too much, he always seems to grab the bullit (even for XC). But the rides he has had on it have been good thus far.

Oh man that looks like fun! I still have been having a ton of trouble making it over there to ride this summer but hopefully I can get there soon.

That cliff jump is fun but its not the highest. Theres one about a 5 minute walk up the river that is MUCH higher. Its ridiculously sketchy and Ive only seen once person jump it in my 10+ years of going there.

Those waterfalls are pretty cool. I was there on the 4th and it was so hot I sat under them for a few minutes. It felt really good. The flumes are really, really fun. It was super crowded when I went so my friends and I had to wait like 20 minutes every time we wanted to jump. And of course, there was always someone in front who took a half hour to work up the courage. Some crazy fools were doing flips and dives off of that. It doesn't look that tall from the picture but when your up there it looks HUGE!

I have a really DUMB question: Where is Whiteface? That place looks great. :) Thanks for sharing the pics, TreeSaw.

Lake Placid, where they had the 1980 Olympics.

Did anyone try to ride off the ski jumps?

Last time I was there I was skiing in February of 1996. It was about -20 on the top of the mountain. Only got 3 runs in because we had to keep going inside to thaw out.

I was there on that wed. with my friend. Awsome trails! No manmade stuff but lots of vertical. My friend and I did 7 runs that day which came out to almost 18,000 feet of vert in one day(seems like alot to me). We had to climb around the waterfalls half way down because it was so f'n hot that day. I'll be going there again.

Treesaw thanks for the write up. That pic is Crashby not me tho. That was a really great trip, one of the best fo sho. I was fantasizing about the flumes today when I was mowing the lawn...... I think I might go back this fall for another run at it........

Treesaw you managed to get me hooked on bacon again :nope: I've been having bacon cravings all week.

Yes the Baja......my only complaint is that the roof rack is too short, so any combination of racks and crossbars is not ideal. So I'm forced to put the big bikes in the back which doesn't leave much room for anything else. Other than that I like it, but the new Outbacks are really catching my eye...especially the turbo.

Gee Spot has the pics on her computer, so I'll bug her to put some up.
