ATF has been criticized by Republicans on Capitol Hill for a law enforcement operation in Arizona designed to track small-time gun buyers up to major weapons traffickers along the Southwest border.

ATF intelligence analyst Lorren Leadmon testified that of more than 2,000 weapons linked to the operation, some 1,400 have not been recovered.
This issue is one of the most interesting topics which is not being widely covered.

If you are like me, who believes in controlling the spread of guns used in crimes, then the ATF's plan is like giving out faulty condoms to see how AIDS spreads.

On the other hand, the NRA, who does almost nothing that I can tell to limit gun sales to criminals, is using this as a club to stop the gov't agency which is responsible for regulating guns.

have they not been active [either re-active or pro-active] in the efforts for background checks @ gunshows? i would expect for them to do everything possible to remain above accusation so they can abide by their charter & keep their influence.

of course, that now may be all undermined by this

Why should the NRA 'do something' to stop the sale of guns to criminals? They neither manufacture nor distribute guns. The ATF essentially just fed 1400 guns into the system, directly to criminals, and 'lost' them. They should be held accountable as its pure incompetence from an agency that constantly points accusatory fingers at others.

The NRA have partnerships with every gun manufacturer. They lobby for the entire industry.

Classic government plan, probably not a bad idea at first, but through incompetence, a total bomb.

Really, if you compare it to drugs, how often does tracking the dealers work?

I should change my comment about F&F: It was an idiotic idea right from the start. It was probably dreamed up some Harvard egghead and was going to make a big splash on the war against guns.
