My IH came with 2 brand new looking rims that say Atomic Labrotories. I don't know **** about bikes yet, and was wondering how good of rims these are. I ask because i had a race and got a nice flat spot on the front now.

I've heard numerous horrorstories about people dinging, tacoing and flatspoting Atomlab rims. However my set of AirCorp's have been straight and true ever since day one. guess I'm not riding hard enough..

Ride 'em till they die, then spread them on a nice loaf of Italian bread, 'cuz they're made of butter. Then slap Mavic 721/729s or Sun Rhyno Lite XLs on the hubs.

Holy crap, they're worse than the Atomlabs...the heaviest, widest, softest rims ever made. Often noted as worst rim ever.

Sun Singletracks and doubletracks are supposed to be decent, though, as are Mag30s. That's hearsay and not personal experience.

Check out Arrow, too. Arrows are the toughest rims I've ever used, but they're heavy. Mavics are better strength-to-weight-wise IMHO, if lacking the ultimate strength of the Arrow.

Welcome to the club...

Fortunately the freehub blew up before I had to change the rim. :eviltongu

Swap 'em out for some D321's or D7whateverthey'recallinthemnow.

It looks like you're running the aircorps rims. I'm using the DHR (silver eyelets and different alum) and they're ok. I've smashed my front wheel into rocks expecting flat spots and nothing so far. The rear is a different story but I account that to my shoddy wheel build (I was impatient building it and I forgot to check it during the first few rides out. By the time I remembered to check it, the rim was all banged up because the spokes got a little loose).

I used to have doublewides, really soft so you'll never get a flat! Avoid these. They're just too heavy for nothing.

No, Trailpimps....

They look the part that's fo sho. I wonder why they they flat so easily, it's just tempered 6061 alum right?

Are they really sh!t?
I checked a bunch of reviews first and I know they are way heavy, I just wanted a stiff wheelset that would last. Then I'd get a light race set later.

Well, if they're like the aircorps (and they are), you may get spokes pulling through the bed, along with easy dents and tons of flatspots. My aircorps taco'd at the pinned seam; only rims I've ever taco'd. I use welded rims only now, if I have a choice. And Rhyno Lite XLs are welded and only $40, so I'm happy to know they're around when my Mavics finally die.

But hey, you have them...ride them till they die. Maybe you'll prove us wrong or just have good luck. No sense in beating yourself up about it; just beat up the rims.

No doubt I will!
Good advice though, thanks. Now at least I can put away the bucks for Rhyno's, Arrows, or Azonic Outlaws and I won't be so pissed when/if they decided to cave in.

Thanks

I think alot of the problems people are with the build not the wheel, if someone knows whats going when built they will take as much if not more abuse than anything out there. the wheel is only as strong as the build. just my two cents.
