i want to start XC racing soon. like, in the next week. i had heard something about wednesday night races at lake accotink park....? but i really just need some suggestions and for you to point me in the right direction.

They don't allow any racing at Accotink, unless you're a cop.

I may do the Wednesday races too. I certainly don't have any aspirations of greatness, but I am curious what it's like to race.
I'm riding Wakefield/Accotink on Friday, if the rain holds off. If you want to come out, we could hit last year's race course so you can get an idea of what this year's will be like (it can't be too different).

I race XC in the mountain states Cup, doing pretty well, won 2 races so far. guess its time to move up

Potomac Velo is a club in No. VA. Check out their webpage for membership info. The Wednesday night races are at Wakefield park. From the DC beltway, 495, take the exit for VA route 620 west and turn right into the park.
any recommended gear i should bring besides a helmet and some water.

It's a pretty short race. The course is only about 3.5 miles long. Beginners do 2 laps, sport and expert do 3 or 4, I don't recall.
