Echo, 'per capita' means if the 2 cities were the same in terms of population, Rochester would have a higher crime rate (twice as high as a matter of fact). :bonk: Just because you like living in white bread suburbia doesn't mean that everyone does :cupidarrow:
I knew what "per capita" meant before you were born son :D

Doesn't change the fact that there are about 20 times as many murders every day, and there are about 30 times as many "places you just don't go".

I'm just saying that "scale" is a relevant factor here, and having survived in downtown Rochester doesn't qualify you for jack sh!t in Los Angeles. LA's gang member population is probably higher than the total population of the greater Rochester area.

Just because you hate your job as a gay porn fluffer doesn't mean everyone hates their jobs.

and actually, we only work half day fridays. Its a Fortune 500 company and jeans and t-shirts is normal business attire.
Actually, I'm an HR puke like IRB; the gay pron fluffing is just how I "give back to the community".

Jeans & tees...not Lands End cutoffs & tevas?

I'm confused. Are you trying to make a point relevant to the original topic? :poster_oops:

meanwhile, back on topic... So from where I am (currently at about 40k/yr equivalent from my hourly rate) does anyone think I'm getting lowballed? Or did they come at me with a good offer? I'm pretty sure its the second one, I just want other opinions. LLkoolkeg, your opinion doesn't count. You give back enough to the community as is

i think it's a fair offer. And don't forget, they don't know you from a hole in the wall so they aren't gonna risk throwing money at a stump they'll cut down in a few months. What you do want to request is a 3 or 6 month (6 month is standard) evaluation. Evaluations = more money and getting a raise after 3-6 months is not out of the norm once you've proven yourself.

oh yeah, around strut alot. People will think your the ****....good luck

$55k sounds like a lot of money to a fresh grad, but it's not for "proper" living in the urban areas of California. Don't forget about how much you're going to be paying in taxes, and splitting a $2500 apartment... that money's going fast. I'd look for a cheaper place or rent out a room in a house with a bunch of friends. I have friends in Orange County with rent around $500 - $700 a person all in similar situations as you.

Corporations are well aware that fresh fish don't understand the system. They will bank on this for at least the next few years to get your labor for cheap. I'd do what the other posters said - ask for a 6 month review. You need the experience. Don't kill yourself over the job. Your focus should be having fun and working enough to get by. Don't forget that. :)

Welcome to the matrix.

I disagree. At this point (fresh out of college) I say spend the next 5-10 years f**king around. There's plenty of time after that to work.
Let me make this clear: I'm going there for the JOB. The fact that its in a location that is highly appealing to me is just a side bonus. I'm not taking this position just to have a job; I had several opportunities available to me, and this job is the most appealing to me and for my future career. I want to focus on creative packaging structure design, and this allows me to do so.

F**k the career. Do the career thing when you're 30. :clue:

Excellent advice. Here's my 2 cents.

Take that career job, but approach it like any other full time job. Come in hungover on a Thursday, leave early, etc. Save and invest as much as you can while you have a good income. Get the hell out after a few yrs if you can last that long. Have fun. :)
