Why is it so freakin' difficult to actual get a human being to speak to at a corporation these days???? I've tried numerous times now to get thru all the freakin' menus and speak with a someone regarding my 401k...still no luck! The old "Dial 0" trick isn't working either

I hate it when the dial 0 trick doesn't work, but sometimes if you stick with the 1 key and follow it until the end (don't even listen to the menus, just hit 1 at every prompt), it'll eventually land you in a place where it'll say "Sorry, we can't help you, to speak to an operator please bang your head on the wall, then press 7 several times in rapid succession" or somesuch.

That sucks.

A company (Thompson) that I have to call pretty often has a page on their website that lets me navigate their phone system without having to wait for the pretty lady's voice to give me my options.

Have you ever called Merrill Lynch? You just say the person's full name into the phone and it'll take you where you need to go; it's cool.

Sorry to hear you luck sucks. Have you tried calling another division/person? Talk to them and see if you can get a direct number, it's worked for me before.

My health insurance co. is like that. I discovered that if you completely ignore the prompts for about 2-3 mins, it sends you to a person.

I also hate when you wade through pressing 1 for this and pressing 3 for that, and then it tells you to enter the phone number you're calling about (for example), the first question the operator will ask you is "what's your phone number?"

Don't you HAVE that thanks to the zippy automated phone system?

Burns my buttocks, it does...

If 0 doesnt work try dialing random numbers and stars and # signs when they ask you for an account or a member number... it will usually get you an operator :D

I tried the waiting it out to see if I could get connected to someone, thought I had it when they said my call was being connected, but then I got disconnected :o

I then tried binary visions "1" trick. At each prompt I hit about 5 1's....after about 3 prompts I got a real person :D :D

I even asked the person I what should I do to get to a real person thru that customer service number....she said you couldn't and gave me a different number :p
