Yea, I will be sending him my 888 to do the cartridge in, the shim kits are 49$ and have a guide for you to do it yourself with sizing and such for the 2010 888 or you can do the whole new cart.nice! i might have to send my Evo Ti to him asap!

you cant modify poop i guessWell.... seems it wont fit in my Travis.......
LMAO!you cant modify poop i guess
they did feel great right before the blew upLMAO!
Hey I had a Travis on a nicolia I had (single crown) and if they could get a few bugs worked out it was extremely plush!!!!
Ummm as far as i know the Vivd is infact twin tube shock.and what happened to that VIVID tune push was developing a while back? From the look of it, it seemed they made ir into a DB, where you had hi and low compression as well as hi and lo rebound (although it would work as a DB because it doesnt have the oil flow capabilities the DB has since it only has "one" barrel)
Yeah I didnt have it all that long but damn it was smooth!they did feel great right before the blew up
My disclaimer is that i've been an AVY customer since 03.Yeah I didnt have it all that long but damn it was smooth!
So do we know who the first AVA advantage guy is??????
Not the 5th me and a buddie are rocking the 5th element upgrade and DAMN that thing is amazing. We upped the spring rate and it now perorms incredible.
We stuck it on the bullit and use it for freeride, drops, rocks and its his do it all bike.
Best bang for the buck.... If you have a 5th its a mandatory upgrade if you pick up a 5th for some change do it as a back up shock or as a main.
Why not just keep rocking the 40 and keep the Boxxer as a spare?I am currently debating whether or not to do this for my 08 Boxxer WC or to sell them. The market sux and I am only getting low-ball offers on my fork. I think they feel like poop in their stock form so the AVA program is a must if I keep them. I am just wondering if it is worth throwing 399.00 into an outdated chassis.
I gots me bills to pay and the kidz need some new shoesWhy not just keep rocking the 40 and keep the Boxxer as a spare?
Yeah been there (avy) since 04, and since put miles on roco wc air and coil, Elka, DHX, Stratos eljeffe and helix, 6way, vivid 5.1 c-tune Im sure Im missing a couple lol I like first hand experience on stuff they all have ups and downs for my style as Im sure it changes for a 130lb rider vs me at 230 and region/course.My disclaimer is that i've been an AVY customer since 03.
I have a 5th with the advantage as well on my old bullit and frankly i'm not that impressed considering that for $50 more a new shock could of been had. And yes i too put a stiffer spring on it.
Having said that im really itching for the new Boxxer stuff
I gots me bills to pay and the kidz need some new shoes
I love the 40, best fork I have ever ridden, hands down. I just can't afford to keep them both. I would keep the 40 but it is much more marketable than the Boxxer right now.
Yeah been there (avy) since 04, and since the DHS it acts like the vivid as far as slow but performs like a roco in the nasty stuff and staying glued to the course + the maintenance and reliability is top notch.
Werd.
The DHS i have been riding since 03 has been on a Nicolai Lamda, Bullit and now a Morewood Izimu and it still IMO the cats meow with yearly overhaul and updates. Every time i ride another shock it confirms my belief that the avy product is still "up there"...
Ha-ha. Good call on the shoes. As far as the kids take your old bike tires and some twine and make them flip flops its green thing to do so you wont be looked at as cheap! Plus different terrain for different seasons!
I wouldnt call the 32mm boxxer dated I loved the way it tracked through stuff even at my weight it killed it, I thought the internals and dampening lacked a little bit but I thought the 08 and 09 wcs I had kicked A$$. I would without question install a avy cartidge in it and see, Im going to do it to the 2010 wc as well as Im getting ready to try his hi/lo internals soon. Availability LOL
But that cartidge kit really has my intrest........
Ha-ha.
So, is there a big difference in feel and performance between a 5th/AVA and the DHS?
Taking the DHS out of the equation, how would you compare the 5th/AVA to other shocks, say more recent offerings?I ran the stock 5th, a DHS and the 5th/ava all on the same bike and yes there is a difference.
I probably woulda been thrilled with the 5th/ava if i had never experienced the DHS.
for just a bit more and depending on size, Diverse has a shock w/ Ti spring for $380But, you can't find a new shock for even $300.00.
Good call. That probably is one of the most economical parts available especially since it includes a Ti spring. However, I need a 9.5x3.0 and probably a 400# spring which would put me at $499.95 for it. I have two other issues it too:for just a bit more and depending on size, Diverse has a shock w/ Ti spring for $380
just food for thought.Good call. That probably is one of the most economical parts available especially since it includes a Ti spring. However, I need a 9.5x3.0 and probably a 400# spring which would put me at $499.95 for it. I have two other issues it too:
1) I don't know how well it would fit my bike since the reservoir comes straight off the top (rather than down at an angle) and the adjusters sit right on top
2) If I am going to spend more than $100.00 on a part, it needs to be proven. I am not saying this is a bad product, I just haven't heard anything one way or another about how well it performs or its durability. It needs more time on the market before I could justify the expense.
Compared to other shocks Id rock it, its plush and great tuning, but the tuning is based on weight of you style bike leverage etc and it works great.Taking the DHS out of the equation, how would you compare the 5th/AVA to other shocks, say more recent offerings?
The attractive thing about the 5th/AVA to me is you can get a clapped out 5th for around $50.00 and then spend $179.00 on the AVA and have a pretty sweet custom tuned shock for $229.00 (probably cost a tad more factoring shipping in each way and a new spring if needed - still keeping it under 300.00). But, you can't find a new shock for even $300.00. It seems like this is a no-brainer if the performance is on par with other current offerings.
not yet at leastAdapter kit for the 32mm Boxxers are ready to go so 06 - 09 (I think 05s as well) boxxers are ready to mod right now.......
Currently not available as a self install kit.
Yeah not self install but the fact they are ready to be installed and for sale as a real product right now after several years in hte making is pretty damn cool!!!!not yet at least
stiffness, weight, A2C length, matching the fork colorways to your spiffy new Kit, looking cool in the lift line...im confused.
Why would you change forks if you are just going to hollow them out and put the same thing you rode last year in them???
exactly what i was thinking. plus you can still brag about having the latest and greatest AND brag about having custom internals too!!matching the fork colorways to your spiffy new Kit, looking cool in the lift line...
Also if you buy your bikes as completes, then you could just have your new bike fitted with the cartridge.. It def. makes sense to me, also cuts down on the "dialing in" of your new bike, if you have a familiar-feeling fork.stiffness, weight, A2C length, matching the fork colorways to your spiffy new Kit, looking cool in the lift line...
Main reason is if you sell of your fork break your fork or sell it to someone else and they have a different fork sitting there they prefer then they can adapt it. You change your bike out and buy another that is complete and sell yours complete swap it to the new set up with an adapter kit. I know I like to keep the goods to myself to put on new stuff. How many times have you sold an item complete and looked back and new you had a custom part on it and said "AHHH I should have kept that!" As much stuff as I sell its happened pretty regularly!exactly what i was thinking. plus you can still brag about having the latest and greatest AND brag about having custom internals too!!
i would think once you have it set up you would be pretty happy and probably not change it from fork to fork. it seems like that would be an added cost w/little benefit. however, $hit breaks and parts wear out so eventually you may be forced to put it in a new chassis.
I think you're missing the point there - the idea is that Avalanche have built a single damper that you can install in any fork, instead of Avalanche having to build 5 separate dampers for a Boxxer/40/Travis/Dorito/888 and their respective year models. Great idea IMO.im confused.
So you can buy this upgrade kit for your current fork to make it preform better.
But you can also adapt it to other forks so when you change forks you can use the internals in that new fork. Why would you change forks if you are just going to hollow them out and put the same thing you rode last year in them???
Im doing the upgrade for the hi/lo on the comp side for new 2010 boxxer. Mine packs no matter what at really high speed compression.everybody is going to LOVE this until they realize it's going to add a lb to their fork. Any estimate on weight?
I'd pick one up in a heartbeat but I have no riding time on my current one, therefore no reason to switch!
