Avid disc brake set-up: modulation?

I've got a rear Avid mech disc on the way to replace my fade-prone Shimano XT. The problem is that I really like the XT's long slow modulation with both 6 and 8" rotors, and I want to duplicate that feeling with the Avid. Any tricks or tips out there?

I've got an old Shimano DX BMX lever, which has the low/med/hi settings.

I'm also going to run full-length, well-greased housing.

If this brake doesn't modulate well, I'll get a Hope something ornother.

To increase modulation on avid mech brakes (single piston), just back the inside pad out as far as you can. There isn't much range, but that's really all you can do.

Run the stationary pad a bit further from the disc than the manual tells you. I used to run mine as close as possible, just before it began to rub, and that gave insta-lockup power. Back the pad off a little and the moving pad will need to push the disc a little further before both pads are engaged...this gives some modulation, but I think it does reduce overall power if taken too far.
