I hate my Avid's they are very difficult to bleed because they do not have a resevoir and they really do not have a possitive feel. I miss my Shimano disk brakes!
Elixir's are a great brake set but a good bleed is key. There is a reservoir, it's just not as prominent and servicable as the older XTR's. IMHO, bleeding the Elixirs is pretty easy compared to the old Shimanos. If you're having a hard time bleeding it, pull the brakeset off the bike and hang it vertically from a workstand or something equvialent.
Just realized your first post on Ridemonkey was a whine.
You're gonna be fun. Welcome to

Get yourself an Avid bleed kit and jump onto Youtube and find the avid tech videos. There are a few out there but I find this the easiest and the quickest method of doing it.
Formula kit is half cheaper, you don't really need clamps to bleed them. Get dot oil at local mechanic and you are set for bleeding procedure. Just follow the user manual.

As a hardcore Shimano brake guy i have now come around to the Elixers.I hated em at 1st but after u adjust the red barrel a bit and bleed them right(still harder and longer to do than shimano) they really do have more modulation and feel.
I can bleed my old saints and newer XT's proper in about 2 minutes per side but the Elixer lever is shaperd better and stops HARD when set up right.
Just stay with it Tony
