putting a new hose on my brakes and was curious if i can re-use the hose barbs on the new hose. i know i obviously need a new compression fitting, but since the hose barb is removable, i thought i might be able to re-use em.

thanks

I would say so, I can't see them deforming enough (if at all) to block fluid flow/be too loose a fit in the hose.

If you need a couple, I think I have about a dozen of them kicking around.

thanks, i found a friend that gave me a few. i bled a couple of people's brakes and used all of mine up.
didnt realize the stock fitting the goes into the Elixr lever, isnt user replaceable.

well it seems that the einsteins at the local bike shop said the jagwire hoses are the same as the stock avid's, but they of course arent. they are .5mm thicker so the compression fitting obviously wont fit, nor will the hose barb since the I.D. is also larger

Sounds about right for an LBS interaction.

Anyone know if you can get a spool of Avid brake hose? Would be great to have like a 50 or 100ft roll of Avid hose on hand.

i never usually rely on the LBS for anything nor do i go to the one i went to for the hose. but since my friend's shop didnt have any i took a shot.
i of course realized it was a different size after i cut it.

i also tried to use a Hayes hose, but its the same diameter as the jagwire hose.
thankfully i have 5 extra brake setups.

i think you can get it by the roll, but do you really need 50ft of it?

I'd rather pay a little more initially and buy in bulk to be set for years and years than spend a ridiculous amount from the LBS for 5-6' lengths at a time. It's not like it goes bad.

I buy 25ft rolls of shifter cable housing online at a time, and use it quite often.

i do use a lot of shifter cable housing as well (thankfully my friend gives me lengths for free,) but lately my fork is rubbing through my brake hose so i guess a 25' roll would make sense. if my other bikes used avid brakes, id get a bigger roll....or just get a 50' roll and split it with someone

Word to that. All 3 of my bikes have Avids (and all Sram drivetrains for that matter), so stocking stuff you can buy in bulk that is brand-specific actually makes sense for me.

Did you happen to get the highflow kit? if so you will need the highflow Jagwire adapters to make them work with the brakes. They make them to fit pretty much every single brake, in the case of Avid Codes you can you use two kits to make them work, since one adapter kit doesn't have enough fittings.

Or you could secure yourself some goodridge lines...

dont know and or care at this point. i got stock elixr lines from a online bike store here in PA and got it the next day.

i cut the Elixr fitting off and just reused 1 hose barb with no issues.

if and when i need another hose, ill look into what fitting ill actually need with the jagwire hose.

didn't know I was going for cool, and not something that dramatically feels better than Jag or Avid lines... It's kinda like nokon Cables, once you have them you'll understand.

I had stainless lines in the past. Meh.

I had them when the growing trend was to see how much you could make your bicycle look like a motorcycle. Looking back, they were comical times.
