Avid Mech 7" issues with '98 Mr. T?

I've got a '98 Mr. T that I want to put a 7" Avid Mechanical disc brake on. I'm buying it over the internet, so I can't really test to see if it works before paying.

I have gathered this information from the Hayes site about my fork?

Year/fork model: 98 MR.T
caliper: 74MM
rotor:8"
hub: 20MM
Mount Bracket: 98-15069
http://hayesdiscbrake.com/mount9815069.html

So, 74mm, I assume that is different than IS mounts?

This from the avid site:
Post Style - 74 mm standard
International Standard- Yes, with mounting bracket

So I've come to the conclusion that Avid discs will bolt directly onto my fork without adaptors?

The brake I am buying is a rear, but I'm told that you can still put it on the front, is this true?

Thank you!

The Mr. T is a 20mm fork with the DH IS mount. The only adapter I know of that lines up a post mount brake properly is the Hayes 8" adapter. It spaces the caliper 5mm towards the wheel in order to line up properly with the brake rotor. I run a Hayes 8" adapter and rotor with my Avid brake, done so for a year or so now, no problems. This is ideal.

If you don't quite want to do that, you can use 5mm worth of spacers between the fork and your 7" adapter, and bolts that are 5mm longer. Make sure your bolts are top-end high-grade ones. It's a quirk of front brake setups that the spacing is 5mm different between 20mm and QR setups, but I haven't heard of any other solutions to this issue.

You can put a rear CALIPER on the front, as there is only one caliper. They are made to fit front or rear using different adapters. The rear adapter will probably not work on the front very well.

Ah. So I've figured it out. Avid supplies the correct adapater for my IS mounts so I'm all fine and dandy. Thanks for the help people! I appreciate it.

Here is my plan.... Score that 7 incher on the front, and when the cash funds open up better, move it to the back and just buy a rear adapter, and get a new 8 inch avid for the front. Sounds dope!
