Would fit an Avy Woodie shock in a Dirtworks Piranha?
Are there funtional differences between Woodie and Chubie or is it just the size of the piggybag?

It is worth the money to replace the Romic with an Avy
or should I safe the money for a new frame?

the small resi avy uses a floating piston within the piggyback, the big resi and remote resi uses a bladder inside the piggyback or reservoir.

said piston slides inside the piggyback to allow for the oil to expand as the shock heats up and more importantly as it compresses, but this piston also has a greater amount of friction associated than the bladder, this is the only difference.

because it still has a huge (in comparison to most other shocks) valve and much more oil, plus a steel shaft and very stiff seal/bushing to shaft interface you will still enjoy a lot (as in the vast majority) of the benefits of the original design, but it isnt quite the same.

Those are great frames but, unfortunately, not easy to get parts for. I say save the money for a frame that'll be around for a while.

Ahh, keep the frame! Those were nice.

edit. The resevoir might fit at the upper end of the shock mount between the seat tube mount. I found these:

You could also look into a DHX Air. You'd save some weight on an already light frame and when you do switch frames, you can bring the shock with you and you can re-tune it for your new frame.
Problems is that I need a 9" x 3" shock.
There are only Romic and Avy.

romic doesnt make one in that size, your only options are avy and risse

that or you could try to find an OEM 9,5/3 fox RC and get creative with the shock body.

It is 9x3"
It is an OEM size

Maybe I try a 8,75x2,75 " shock for a lower bottom bracket and slacker head angel.

Actual with the 9x3 " ist is 14,67" and 67°
That's freaky. I never heard of a 9x3 Romic shock. Why do you want to get rid of it?

unbelievable, it is really a 9,5x3 " :oink:
So there are plenty of more options
Maybe a DHX air wirht Boxxer WC air

The frame is really ligtweigt.
9,16# if Go-Rides frame chart was correctly

But why I always thought is is a 9x3 shock
"Edit: Avalanche writes on its application list that I need a 9x3" shock"

Why do you want to get rid of it?
The shock is OK. It needs a service, looks realy used and the bushings worn out to fast.

I am just pimping my bike with a new fork and colouring
so I thought I could also change the shock

I gave Craig a ring and he told me the Woodie would not fit my bike :(

Now I have to decide between Avy DHS, Chuby and Fox DHX
Fork would be a Fox 40

Or maybe a Booxer WC air and a Fox DHX air
Avy Chuby and DHF 8 ti
Fox 40 and DHX ti spring

Avy DHF 8ti/Chuby is 2,4 # heavier than the Fox 40/DHX
and probably I am to heavy for the DHF 8ti :o:

I have to pay the same price for a Fox 40 rc2 and DHX in Germany,
as I must pay for an Avy DHF 8 ti and Chubie if I order them in USA.

The new air Boxxer and DHX Air would be great. Although I'm becoming a weight weenie since I already have an INCREDIBLY heavy frame I need to make a bike out of (03 Nucleon ST).

Either way, whatever you choose, put a Ti spring on it. If you're paying the same amount for Fox and Avalanche, I'd be leaning towards Avalanche (not the DHS but the Chubie and the Ti 8" fork).

The 9x3 listing on his site must be a typo. Unless it still fits but drops the bike's height. That might be a good thing if the bike doesn't self destruct when you bottom out.

Did Craig say why his shock wouldn't fit your bike? If it's because the piggyback will hit the frame somewhere, then the DHX and the Woody probably aren't going to fit either.

The piggyback of the the Woodie shock is 1-2 mm too big.
If it was a bit smaller or shorter it would fit.

Isn't the DHX smaller?
Does anybody have the measurments of a DHX?
I need the measurements like on the attachement

Measurements of the Woodie shock

Thanks
Okay call me a moron but is there a reason why you just don't run the DHS avy shock and bypass all the fitment problems? I have seen piranha's with the dhs remote resivoir mounted just fine.
And i would say that Fox DHX and the avy shocks don't feel the exact same.

I agree when it comes to the DHS.....but I think there may be someone who thinks it is too heavy.... ;)

What is the difference in performance for DH racing ? :oink:
No postings about price, weight, quality or durability please.

I have the choice between Avy DHS and FOX DHX with remote resevoir like on the Turner DHR.

Shocks with a piggyback do not fit.

I have been riding both - but not on the same bike

However - my opinion is the following.

Both shocks feel good in general. You have more adjustments on the DHX than on the Avy. I like the Avy most. It feels more controled in its mid-travel (where I run it most) and it does not bottom out (atleast I can not feel it if it does). On the other hand - the rebound setting is limited on the Avy while you can get the very slow rebound setting on the DHX. Also, on the DHX you can control the air pressure.

As for pure quality I think the Avy "feels better" and looks as made from higher quality parts - but that is pure personal opinion.

Of course I will recommend the Avy DHS.....
