I have the azonic 454 cranks and i am going through bearings like there is no tomorrow. anyone know why/how to fix it. or if anyone has a copy of the instructions they could put on here (i bought them used). Also is it possible to use the profile sealed bottom bracket with the profile crank arms. thanks

You're adjusting the bearings too tight. The sleeve spacer that goes between the bearings should be just held in place when you tighten the cups (so you can put the axle through it) then back it of just a c-hair.

Those bearings will self destruct if they are too tight.

Also - pull the small seals on the stock bearings and pack a crapload of marine grade bearing grease in there before installation.

Yeah, what H8R said. You probably have the bearings too tight. I run Azonic cranks and have no issues with bearings. Like he said, you want to tighten the cups down so that the spacer is just held in there. No too tight, just enough so it stays in place. I can scan and post the instruction sheet when I get home if you like.

that would be most helpful, i think part of the problem is i might not have them set up right and someting is cutting them open, but i cant figure out what.

I will scan them tonight for ya, and see if I can get a couple of pictures of mine.

But this is how mine are done...

Fixed cup (drive side) goes on first. Then I put the spacer in there, and then start threading in the non-drive side cup. (Also, my BB came with 3 bearings. I added a fourth which does two things: Takes up space in the shell so you don't need as many spacers in there, and distributes the load better.) Make sure all your threads are CLEAN and greased. You should not be struggling to thread in a BB cup. Thread the cup in lightly. You can use your finger or BB spindle to align the spacer with the bearings. Thread cup in lightly till it just makes contact with the spacer inside. You can use your finger to feel for any play. When there is no play and they are lightly making contact, back it off an eighth to a quarter turn. Hold the cup still with your BB tool and a wrench while tightening the lockring down. After that, just slip your spindle in there and install the arms with the appropriate spacers.

Check your local yellow pages under bearings. Or run a quick search for bearings in your area. Take the old one with you.
