I've got two sets. One on a DH bike and one on a dirt jumping HT. Not the lightest, but very strong and adaptable to different bikes which is nice if they are a backup. The front goes from qr to 20mm and the back goes from qr to 12mm all with no tools. Pretty sweet for the money.
The wheelset isnt the lightest, but oddly enough the Rims by themselves are listed as being lighter than Singletracks... I havent comapred them actually for myself on a scale, and often these #'s stated are off some. I used a set as my main Dh wheelset for racing. They held up fine for mild rough courses. If i went to a place i knew was a wheel killer i didnt take any chances and ran my hadley/Doubletracks at a big weight penalty. The Outlaws worked perfect. I only had to true them a few times (as any machine built wheel will need to be.). The hubs worked fine. I cleaned/lubed the freehub once over the season. The convesion kits is simple and worked great. Ive used them as backups on my trail bike. The kit has a steel axle in the rear and thats where some of the extra weight is. But someone with lathe skills might be able to take some weight out in making an aluminum axle.
For the price i think there one of the better deals out there. As a backup you wont go wrong, plus they are convertable if your other bikes (if you have any) can run the wheels if they are 12/10r, or 9/20f....
Ive ridden them for awhile now and they flex a lot. I use to run 02 Dee Maxxes so compared to the DeeMaxxes the Azonics are really flexy. You can really feel it in rock gardens. Its really sketchy. They are still true and have held up, though.
My other complant is the front hub started to leak rusty colored water out around the thru axle. I took the thru axle out and the rings inside the axle must be steal. The rings are solid rust. There is now rust all over in the hub. Most of the rust just wiped off with a little steal wool. The rings though, which are steal, are covered and I cant get the rust off. Im surprised they are steal. I dont know what you call the part but ther are 2 rings inside the hub that the 20mm axle goes thru.
Anyone know what Im talking about. I think they can be replaced. These wheels were only on my bike a few months.
I cant wait till my 36h CK hubs come in so I can mount them in my 36h Dee Maxx rims.
