I am building up a steelhead and wanted some opinions. I have seen set up with 24's and 26's and some with 26 front and 24 rear. I am going to use it for light freeriding and wanted to know what the best wheel size would be. What is the advantage to running a 26 up front and a 24 in the rear? Any info would be helpful.

Thanks

Running a 26/24 setup will slacken your head angle out a bit. A 24" in the rear will also allow you to spin up to speed a little bit quicker (easier to transfer torque to the ground). Other than that, I like running 26/24 on my TMX because it just looks bad ass. Only reason not to run a 24" in the rear is because you don't want your head angle slacker / don't want your BB closer to the ground.

Also keep in mind a 24" laced up identically to a 26" will generally be a bit stronger (less spoke length). 24/24 also feels good if you already like your head angle and don't mind a lower BB. 26/26 on the other hand will generally give your more forward momentum (stability) for identically laced wheels over 26/24 or 24/24 because there is more wheel spinning faster which ends up acting like a larger gyro.

Hope that helps. But either way, have fun with the Steelhead, it's a great bike.
