Cops are getting to taser happy these days. Maybe tasers should shock the officer at the same time that they they shock the perp, then maybe the cops will think twice before using them :D

I know we didn't see anything that happened before then, and for all we know he could have said "I have a gun in my pocket and as soon as you try to handcuff me you're all DEAD" or something like that, but realistically is there *anything* that could have transpired before this (or off-camera) that would justify this? I hate jumping to conclusions without knowing the whole story, but for the life of me I can't figure out anything that could have gone on that would make this understandable...

(other than of course that the police officer was TINY compared to the huge guy with his hands on the hood, look how high he has to reach up to get him in the neck with Mr. Sparky)

The fact that the lawyer won't release any footage prior to the tasing seems to speak for itself. Lucky he wasn't tased in the balls.
It's footage from the cop car, so if there's anything beforehand that'll excuse the cops actions they'll release the full video. If it just shows the guy being an asshat, it's not really relevant to the case...

Would you feel better if they'd beaten him or pepper sprayed him? It's not like they're hiding their conduct by using a taser and "not leaving marks"...it's all on dash-cam...

Abuse is abuse; the tool is irrelevant.

Can't watch the vid to comment on the actual situation, though. Not saying the cops were right or wrong.

Beating or spraying is not 100% sure in any situation.
A taser gun to the neck will pretty much criple a brown bear.
Suspect was standing calmly with his hands on the hood of the black and white and got tasered in the neck from behind by surprise...
No matter what happend before this is not the way you would want a police officer to uphold the law.

Again, wasn't arguing whether they were right or wrong, but that the taser is immaterial.

The brown bear thing confuses me. Having been subjected to MANY forms of violence, I'd much rather be tasered than beaten or pepper sprayed. It's over quick.

If I was being abused or tortured with a taser, I'd not think "wow, this cop shouldn't have a taser because he's using it abusively" but "this cop should be shot in the face for torturing me."

Not questioning wether you think it was right or wrong. Just pointing out a tasergun is a much safer way of inflicting damage on a suspect then beating him up or spraying him with pepperspray. Beating someone (even with a stick) thats bigger then you or spraying them is not a sure and safe way of submitting a guy.
Tasers are a much more efficient way of doing so, unless the suspect is Cuban and shouting "I can take your fukkin bullets!"

That's sort of the point. It's supposed to be a good non-lethal weapon, not a bad one.

Arguing against them because they can be misused is silly. Anything can be misused. And being hit with a taser is safer for the subject than being beaten with a baton.

Sounds like a valid point youre making. But I think the taser gun is a lot easier to abuse (because its safer) and will therefore be abused more.
Guess it has its pro's and con's like any weapon...

Taser is a lot easier to abuse i guess, but the side and after affects are much better for the human body and mind. I haven't been tased yet but if I had the choice right now this second between the tase or being beaten with the baton, I'd go for the taser for sure. The baton beating you'd feel for a few days after words for sure.

As for the vid, I dont have sound so all I saw was a larger man with his hands on the hood of the vehicle from dash cam perspective and a littler man come up from behind, then all of the sudden the larger man disappeared.
