So I got my stance static for my evil imperial the other day. I installed it and got it all set up, I go to pump some air into the fork to stiffen it up and I didnt even got to 50 psi before the ****ing seal blew off. This is bull ****...

Give Answer tech support a shout. They should be able to fix you up no proble, I've had a couple Stance's to pay with and no such event so far, so maybe its an isolated issue. I mean, the air assist is super simple, so the o-ring must have gotten pinched when it was assembled or something. They probably can set you up with a fix pretty quickly.

good luck man

Two things I can say about answer... 1st the good.. Bobby is a SUPER good guy and has always fixed problems quickly for me. I really can't say enough good stuff about him.

2nd.. Well, I've had more problems with Answer forks than any other fork I've ever delt with. I'm going about nearly ten years. The only fork I've ever had worse luck with was '95/'96 Judy forks. I really wish Answer could deliver a more reliable product. They would be a REAL contender then, or MORE of a contender.

Sorry for ya... I sure love Zoke.
One fork doesn't mean anything - its an outlier. There have been cases of Z1s blowing a seal after riding off 6" street curb too :D

50lbs sure sounds like a lot of air if its just for air assist, i havent played around with one of the new manitou forks but if you put 50lbs in any rs or marzo air assist youd be pretty much getting a rigid fork.

I'm going to agree with V here. I don't have the stance and i don't know anything about it but I have a z150 and if i put 20lbs in each leg, it's way to stiff to ride. 50 would not move much at all.

That was my first reaction as well.. 50psi in a Marz. air assist makes it a locked out fork. You sure you were supposed to put that much air in it?

He probably didn't realize the forks use springs for preload. I know people who think you should use SPV for preload adjustment too

Does anyone know what the pressure should be? I'm looking at that exact fork for my next project. Anyways, even if it was over-aired, doesn't 10-15psi static become hundreds of psi near bottom out? If so, and the seals popped at 50psi I think there is still an issue.

I though Marzocchi seals were good to 300(?) psi to aid in their open bath bottom out tuning, and those forks run (well, ran) no air assist.

I was at 40 psi and the fork felt like it was sprung for someone 1/3 my size, I didnt know the max I could oput in but the manual doesnt state that either. Im sure I need stiffer springs but I wasnt told that....

Manitou has a recall on their forks, already, too. The Stance and Nixon lines are recalled, and the Sherman Jumper is reacalled too. This is all due to tire clearence.

Why you would put a stance on an Imperial I do not know.
Why not? Like my z150, the Stance is damped through a "coil with air assist." I know that at least for my fork you are not supposed to put in anymore than about 15 PSI at the absolute maximum. 50 seems like a really high number for assist, maybe a stiffer spring would be the right thing?

My comment wasn't a knock on the fork. It's purpose-built. Nothing wrong with that. I've actually got my form filled out to order one myself. And yes for street and DJ's it should be perfect. The only place a high-end damper would be needed for me would be ripping the XC trails. But if it was that big of an issue there is always the Jumper. The only reasons I'm looking at the Static are 1- It's cheap, 2- Burly build (on paper), 3- I don't need good damping, and 4- It's a pound lighter than a DJ.

wouldn't it suck if that zoom fork was accually good? not saying that it is.

hey vitox whats the specs on it?

no no worries about that, it hasnt got any damper save for the friction in the plastic bushings (like a hanebrink).
travel is 100mm i think. its crap but big and looks the part thats about what it does

High-end frame. Lowest-end damping technology.
I have an Imperial with a jumper and I still don't think there is anything wrong with putting a stance on one???

I'd call up manitou, ask them about it. I know that for alot of marzocchi's(i.e. z150) you're not supposed to go above 30 i think, maybe its 25. I can't remember, anyways. instead of pumping them up to 50psi, which i'm pretty sure is waaaay too much for most forks, you should have bought stiffer springs.
so, ya, call them up, or go to your local bike shop and have them call manitou up and find out more information.
