Gov't Budget Surplus Hits $21B for Jan.
MARTIN CRUTSINGER, AP Economics Writer

WASHINGTON - The federal government ran a $21 billion budget surplus last month, the best January showing in four years, as both spending and tax receipts set records for the month.

The Treasury Department said the government spent $209 billion last month, a record amount for January and up 7.9 percent from January 2005. Government tax receipts, however, also set a record for the month of $230 billion, up 13.7 percent from January 2005.

The faster growth in receipts than in spending pushed the suplus for the month to $21 billion, more than double the $8.6 billion surplus the government recorded in January 2005. It was the biggest January surplus since $43.7 billion in 2002.

What? So January showed a surplus...no programs have been paid into yet. Give it a month or 2 and you will be once again, well entrenched in your ridiculous debt.

Give it 12 months and it will hit $400b+

$21 billion?

Well let's see, the national debt as of today (Feb 9, 2006) was $8,205,718,977,047.85 (or about 8200 billion).

So we just need to have these "record-breaking" months for the next 400 months to break even. Shouldn't be a problem...

No problem, they just have to make corporations to pay the full amount of their their annual taxes every month. I have a feeling there might be one or two corporations out there who would have a problem with a 1200% tax increase though.
