Not everyone will feel the pinch the same way. A lot of folks will end up jobless/homeless and in deep ****. Others will end up getting shot and robbed when less savory people hit rock bottom. It is a lot easier to say suck it up when you are not one of the people that has to suck it up.

Me, I just got a raise today.:monkeydance:
We just bought a house and my job security scares me. I'm not sure how we would do it without my salary. I'm all for a free market and the market should crash because of the sins of the banks/investors however the fact that I may have to pay for the sins of greedy people is a shame.

Thankfully my wife is a tenured teacher.

My house I purchased in 2005 in the Lehigh Valley area of PA amid the great mass exodus of NY/NJ that was overpriced at 300,000 is worth about 225,000 today according to the paper here yesterday, but it's paid off, I have minimal $$ in the 401k, most of it's in mutual funds or savings, I'm riding it out.

Oh, and I bought like 20 cases of beenie-weeines on sale the other week, let it burn!!!

You'll find something else to do to make money. You'll continue to pay your mortgage... grow a big garden... spend your free time chopping wood... stop mowing 14 acres of lawn... raise chickens and sheep (takes care of the lawn issue).

And your wife will make crocheted hats for the kids whose b-day parties you attend.

Don't worry - you'll be fine.

Large $$ partly from sale of house in New Orleans that had been paid off for several years. The rest is due to the fact we are debt free and just paid off the little we had to finance with balls to the walls payments.

We (wife and I) developed a plan 16 years ago to become debt free. It worked.

The Jews is so 20th Century...I'm thinking Latinos might be a better choice this time around. Maybe the Muslims?

That's what this whole bailout is all about! Sharing the wealth!

But that's not capitalist, how will Curtix ever live with him self if he knows that I and my socialist buddies pamper his proud 'independent' ass at his age?

Fvck corporate welfare, let 'em burn. This country will be far better off after an economic catastrophe.
Butbutbut, then I get to pay...

If this is how you all are here, and it is ok to attack and or make fun of Jews and or Muslims then you won't have to deal with me much longer.

I think we can.

And should.

YMMV.
I fundamentally agree with all of you. If you look at my posts several months ago, I was saying that we should enforce existing bankruptcy laws and and let the market correct itself according the rules folks were playing by when they valued all of this junk debt.

However, the problem is that it does not just hit the banks and people involved. Responsible people at companies completely unrelated to banking, construction, and development will lose their jobs, will be unable to get financing for their car, will be unable to obtain a credit card.

Contrary to the term bailout, we are NOT giving this money away. We are purchasing an asset, and we are purchasing it at a market price (reverse auction), because the taxpayers are the only ones that could outlay enough cash at this moment to do so. Bad lenders will still go bankrupt. Badly financed homes will still go into foreclosure. The ****ups will be punished, economically. What we are trying to do is the minimum necessary to protect the innocent. It's unfortunate that a small number of the guilty will sneak in there as well, but it's not like we're just handing money from good people to bad people.

While I'd love to lose you, you should know that heavy-handed parody is a common humor tactic in this forum. Many of the loudest "anti-Semites" are, in fact, Jewish (me, for example) and we crack ourselves up endlessly with this ****. It's like Dave Chappelle in white-face.

Just because someone from some ethnic or religious group isn't bothered and pokes fun at themselves does not make it ok by all.
Understand that.

hey bro, relax. i am jewish; born and raised. self deprecation is necessary to survival in this day and age, as is being able to recognize it. i in no way feel that any individual group of people (be they defined by ethnicity, religion, political conviction, etc) are solely responsible for the current mess, but mocking a fairly strong contingent of ignorant, racist individuals in this country makes me feel better. if i offended you in any way, i apologize, but everything i say on this board involving lines of open racism/antisemitism is purely tongue-in-cheek.

man, where is opie when you need him...
