I'm homeless
I have noticed many stores not saying merry Christmas in stores, with many groups campaigning against Christmas in public. I do not get why people are so offended about an OFFICIAL holiday. Second stores are not the government and such places as stores and home do not violate separation of church and state laws. I am starting to get quite angry with this, and I’m Jewish. I like Christmas and love seeing decorations, as well as the Christmas spirit. Why are people so offended by a holiday?

i was wondering the same thing. even good 'ole walmart has denounced "christmas" and is replacing it with "happy holidays".

can't say it's a surprise though. just another step in a long line of things to come.

Why? Because as an employer you cannot discriminate against your employees. If you have a non Christian and they feel left out, not part of the team [insert all other bs] whatever they could claim they are in a hostile work environment. Better to just be vague, then take the chance

How are they being left out, it's not like its a paid Holiday only for Christians, if a Company recognizes Christmas they extend the benefits to all, could you imagine a posting on the jobsite: Attention all Hindu's,Muslim's, Athiest's,Hebrew's and any other non christian sect please report to work on Dec. 25 as normal.....

This is so badly and sadly getting out of hand, I have friends of all kinds of denominations, and I don't take offense of Yom Kippur, when my Jewish friends bring it up, I have a friend that is wiccan (it's not my thing) but I don't try and stifle them when they talk about winter solstice.

We should all be allowed to express our religous feelings, if someone says Merry Christmas, and thats not your bag whats wrong with just saying thank you and leave it at that. When I'm greeted with "Shalom" I don't retort by saying Christ died for your sins. I just smile .
When someone says Merry Christmas it's not like they are going to drag you to midnite mass, so just lighten up , all of us!

The word "holiday" should be banned as well, seeing as it is a reference to a "holy day".

What bothers me the most is the fuss about the "holiday tree" at the White House. Either you call it a Christmas tree, or you don't have one at all. Even the most liberal atheists that I know are not stupid enough to call it anything other than a Christmas tree.

Ahem, "non-denominational winter festivity centerpiece"

There was a report about a Lowes in Texas that was selling "Holiday Trees"...

WTF - Are there actually people out there who do not celebrate Christmas, but are buying the trees?!??!?

It has nothing to do with that. It has to do with providing a non discriminatory work place environment. Not favoring one group over the other.

I am not trying to defend it, IMHO it fails any kind of common sense test, but whatever, that is the reasoning.

define celebrate.

I do not observe x-mas, but I do 'celebrate' it sometimes. My family used to put up a tree and decorate it cuz it's fun. I like to drive around and look at the lights also.

Are you still hurt that the rest of your co-workers are getting Christmas bonuses but you're getting nothing because our shop doesn't give out Hannakuh bonuses?

Yep the 12 days of Christmas were orginally the celebration of the birth of Caesar Augustus who proclaimed he was the "prince of peace". It's not like Christmas is a high holiday or anything sheesssssshhhhh..........

I personally think it's to combat winter depression... longer nights, colder days, etc.

Why else would most of the celebration's roots be based in the northern hemisphere...

I have no idea if this is right, but maybe the fact that nothing is growing in the fields? Good time to have a party, right?

I'm really not too sure when it happened, but saying Merry Christmas has become "politically incorrect." Since I work in HR, I had to "train" myself to say "happy holidays," or have a "great holiday season." It's kind of lame, but it is what it is...

Happy Holidays to everyone...see I have been brainwashed!
