Im sorry. He has been in office for 9 months for fcks sake. You can't get a Nobel Peace Prize for ideas, and that is all he has so far. Don't get me wrong, I love the guy and I love what he is doing, but at least wait till something happens!

What a Norwegian-American arse kiss.

Go and search who recieved the first NPP and what he got it for. Irony?

In his acceptance speech he invited all birthers, teabaggers and other assorted frothers to dine in the corn in his pooh.
Seriously though, a bit premature I would have thought.

I would think it's a little premature, but you have to admit, it's pretty funny that all it took was 9 months of cleaning up the ****storm of the last president to win a Nobel peace prize.

Kinda says something about Bush.

People are going to be real sore today about this. They'll bitch that nobody ever gives out a Nobel War Prize so the whole thing is irrelevant.

If you look at the last 9 months, I would actually argue that we have done a lot towards promoting peace in the world. Not more than most other presidents but definitely more than the last one. Our actions over the last 8 years have caused less peace in the world, and in the last 9 months we have turned around a lot of the perception. And that is what the prize reflects.

But we still have a long way to go.

I like it for sure, but have mixed feelings about the timeliness of it.

It's definitely a version of the "Thank God America didn't choose McCain" prize.

In his earlier announcement about the secret Iranian facility, Obama said, "Iran is breaking rules that all nations must follow. The size and configuration of this facility is inconsistent with a peaceful program.
Except for:

President Obama has reaffirmed a 4-decade-old secret understanding that has allowed Israel to keep a nuclear arsenal without opening it to international inspections, three officials familiar with the understanding said.
Image is everything.

#1 Take a look at the list of other NPP laureates then tell me that.

#2 Flat out not true. He more or less has given the US an about face in foreign policy when compared to the last Pres (Bush). He's closed Gitmo (big problem there, this process isn't completed but its well underway) and has started pulling troops out of Iraq. I'd hardly call those ideas.

Think before you speak, kiwi-frog ;) :p

"Ohhh, sorry, Mr. President, Chicago has no hope in hell of getting the Summer Games..but we do have some lovely consolation prizes, Johhny, tell him what he's won.."

After all, it's a prize, it's called winning the prize, not earning it.

This, the anti-climatic moon explosion, Jon and Kate and Levi Johnston are why I may finally go liberal hippy and quit watching TV or reading news.

Haha Jon, you are kinda right, my wording was wrong.
I believe that if Obama's ideas come into fruition, then sure, give him a prize.
I just think it's a little early to be popping the champagne bottle...

Actually, given the amount of time he's been in office and the amount of bureaucratic bs he has to go through to get stuff done nowadays, I am honestly rather impressed by the amount he has accomplished and started in his time in office. Think back, how much had Dubya accomplished in his first 9 months?

Something interesting I've found, regardless of your opinion of him:

http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter/promises/

Keeps track of the current status of his campaign promises. All things considered it seems like he is doing quite well.

I say hell yes. He's made it this far and I think the work he has done considering the pile of sh!t he was given to work with is one hell of a feat.

I agree that there is still a lot to do, but the fact tat we are less hated throughout the world is a huge bonus.

I can't wait to hear what the birthers and wingnuts are gonna say about this. Can you imagine a group of people so far disconnected from reality that they view receiving a Nobel Peace Prize as a bad thing?

Even a big Obamaphile like myself doesn't know what he did to deserve one.

Maybe it was just a weak field this year and the NPP committee was like, "FU Bush".

Isn't the disconnect a requirement to be a birther? And just you wait, I give it not even a day before the nut jobs find a way to condemn the Nobel peace prize as further evidence that Obama is a socialist/fascist/commie/whatever.

*edit. And I think its a bit too early also.

Well here's what the RNC has to say:

“The real question Americans are asking is, ‘What has President Obama actually accomplished?' It is unfortunate that the president's star power has outshined tireless advocates who have made real achievements working towards peace and human rights. One thing is certain – President Obama won't be receiving any awards from Americans for job creation, fiscal responsibility, or backing up rhetoric with concrete action.”

Joke. He is a world leader. It's part of his job description to keep the peace. To quote Chris Rock, it's like a father being awarded for feeding his kids.
