my friend just gave me his shimano lx or xt front derailor im not sure on the actuall line. I was just in dire need of one. Does anyone have experiance on them that can tell me if they are better then the ones that bolt onto the frame?
They are the same derailer, but you are going to need a new BB unless you have one with spacers that you can remove to use it.

"E-type " Shimano units have a bracket that is held on by the bottom bracket retaining ring. These also use a special braze on to stabilize the derailer.
E-type mounts do not permit any adjustment at all, so you generally need to use exactly the size chainrings that your E-type front derailer was designed for.
i installed it then i was running the shifter cable and it turns out its a bottom pull derailor and i dont have the ability to run bottom pull on my bike
