how important is it to remove paint from the flanged bb side of the frame? my frame has really nice and and i'd like to keep it that way.

is it best just to sand off the paint or take a razor to it?

The Drive side (generally the fixed cup) Should be torqued down to 50 ft lbs Trust me its alot , the non drive side (the side withe the cup you hold in your hand goes on with 35 ft lbs.
Start by putting A good thick layer of grease all ove the BB shell and the BB itself then put in the NDS and when you have it all the way in back it out 4 turns, then proceed to place the DS in the frame this should be able to go in by hand all the way(perhaps a few tight spots) then isert the BB tool into that sucker and torque it down.
If you think it is tight try a little harder and you will probably get it to move just a hair more. when you have this all the way tight finish the job by tightening the NDS 35v ft lbs is 15 less than the DS but it feels substantially less when putting the BB in.
Hope it was of some help
