BB shell ovalizing...

I'm running an eastern dj4 frame and have always installed parts correctly and kept my bike maintained very well, and I was very surprised to find the drive side of my bb shell ovalizing.:banghead: I have never ridden the bike with a loose bb cup or anything else loose for that matter, as I am pretty damn ocd when it comes to bikes. When I first noticed it (before it really became a problem) I immediatley removed the crankset and wrapped the drive side cup with teflon tape. Solved the problem for about a month, before it became worse. Eastern has a lifetime warranty on the dj4 frame and I am wondering if it can still be replaced, as I am assuming they will want to say I have voided the warranty. Any advice will be greatly appriciated.

I will admit that I am not extremely familiar with Eastern frames, but was it an Al frame or steel?

What cranks and SS were you running?

I would try just giving Eastern a call. I deal with them fairly often and they seem like a cool bunch of people. Especially given their lifetime warranty on their steel stuff I don't see there being much of an issue. Try doing that first before worrying about what to do if they cry "rider error". Even if for some reason they do claim rider error, they have helped out customers of mine with crash replacement (i.e. parts for cost, not retail) stuff for other parts (not frames).

Called eastern today, and they said if it wasent like that when I got the frame then it's not a manufacturers defect.:dead: I really can't afford another frame right now..

That's a cop-out. If it was like that when you had gotten the frame, it would have been a quality control issue (they should not have let it out the door).

Did you buy the frame through a local shop or online?

I ordered it over the phone direct. I was pretty sure they wouldn't replace it... I'm not heavy though and I ride pretty smooth, and this has never happened on any other bikes ive had. Could my frame have been weaker at the bb than others? What is there to do in this situation?(besides just buy a new frame of course) :twitch: Also, what good is the lifetime warranty if it only covers issues that would have been there from the start?

Got this response from eastern the other day:

If you’d like to go ahead and send that back, we could take a look and get you situated with another frame. Be sure to include a copy of your receipt and send it to:
904 S. Chapel St.
Landis, NC 28088

Thanks,

So I guess I'll send my frame in and see if I can get a black betty or something.(maybe for some extra $?) Right now I have the "short" 21.5tt, and I love the way the bike rides other than the foot clearance issues. I rode a 22.5tt night train, and it just seemed so much harder to balance manuals and do spins and such. If I got a new frame with a 22.5tt, would I be able to get used to it and do spins/manuals just as easily? Or would I miss having the agility of the 21.5tt? Thoughts?
