BB Sizing & Other (rather stupid) Questions

Hello - I was finalizing my order but I had a few questions . . .

#1 - I measured my BB (see photo below) - so what size should I get - I never thought about the "real" frame I'm going to have someday - I guess I could just get another BB if this one isn't interchangeable?

#2 - What size XT rear derailleur should I get - the "long cage" one or the "other" one?

#3 - I'm guessing I should get the 11-32 XT cassette - any reason not to?

#4 - Are the ES-70 & ES-71 BB's interchangeable? Is the only difference that the '71 is lighter & a tad more expensive?

#5 - Is a 175mm crank arm length okay? If it's important, I ride a "large" frame & I'm 6' or 6' 1/2".

#6 - Which SRAM chain to get? The 59?

Thanks,

OD

Long cage to go with # 3.

12/34 XT because you're not getting any younger.

For more torque per spin I'd hit 172.5; I'm not the expert though.

SRAM PC99 - I'd never think about another mtb chain.

a 118 bb length x 72 bb shell and you'll be good to go. also get a long cage derailuer, that will cover your basic needs as far as that goes. don't go w/ the 172.5, that's only gonna do you any good on a road bike.....you are to tall to use that length effectively. i think a 12/34 will serve you a little better but everything else sounds good to go.

go ahead and get a un-70, you won't have any problems w/ that BB. i am currently using one. i've always had pretty good luck w/ shimano bb's. i ran a un-72 for 4 years w/ no problems.

i think indieboy means 118x73, 72 is not a size.

Long cage der. are more prone to hit stuff and get tweaked.

Shimano BB lengths are not correctly labeled. The size printed on the shell is not the actual measured length. In other words, if you measure your spindle length and it's 122, it may infact read 118 on the shell. I don't remember if they're measured too long or too short though.

your cassette choice should depend on your riding and your crankset. For instance: if i had a 32t middle ring, i'd get an 11-32 cassette. If i had a 36t middle ring, i'd probably get a 12-34.

175 is fine, PC59 is fine.

yeah i meant a 73, and i think he needs the 12-34, he is an older guy who lives in the mountains of north georgia. and the long cage der. is the only thing that will handle a 34 efficiently
