this was my first trip to british columbia to ride bikes. it was
super fun.
spent three nights in cumberland out on vancouver
island. met the nicest couple ever trying to find
some DH trails in the cumberland forest. they wanted
to know where we were heading. we say, 'bucket of
blood'. they say, 'no way. we've got some better
trails. follow us'. so they let us tag along on a
fabulous run. we then ventured off and explored some of the more xcish trails
christine and i hiking our bikes up.
we end the ride and our new super friendly canadian
friends say, 'where are you riding tomorrow?' and we
say 'more of this i suppose'. and then they offer
to shuttle us on a dh ride not too far away. so, the
next day we joined them for a shuttle of the forbidden
plateau.

i end the ride thinking that this was the best shuttle
run i've ever done. they ask us again where we were
planning on riding the next day. we tell them we
were going to try and explore some north shore trails.
being the super friendly canadians that they are...
they say they used to live out that way and if we
wanted to, they would shuttle us up mt seymour. so
the next day we left cumberland and took the ferry
over to north vancouver. we rode cbc to boogieman.
and THIS was the most fun shuttle i've done.

we said goodbye to our lovely tour guides and headed
out to whistler where we spent the rest of the trip.
whistler is whistler. it's fun. not much more to say
than that...

on a side note:
while in cumberland we stayed in the riding fool
hostel. i've gotten to this point in my life that i
don't typically like staying in hostels. i've stayed
in some totally crap ones and i've stayed in some just
ok ones. the riding fool hostel is the best hostel i
have ever stayed in and will probably ever stay in.
the people who run it are totally into bikes and snow.
the first floor is actually a coffee shop and bike
shop. there's a room to lock up bikes and they are
very knowledgeable about any sort of riding you are
looking for. When we said we were looking to do
some dh runs... they weren't shy about sharing some of
their favorite trails with us.
to top it off... the place was just really nice and
inexpensive. private room was 45 canadian dollars.
clean bathrooms. big open kitchen. pool tables. i
would go back there in a heart beat. and if anyone
is looking for a side trip the next time they are
going out to bc to ride bikes, i would recommend
cumberland. yep.
super fun.
