I believe the maker will stand behind the product... Where can I get 2?

I saw this crash and it was insane, any other stem out there would have broke or would have caused the bars to break instead. The aftermath left indentations on the crown and bent bars!!! That is an insane amount of force for any stem to withstand. Sign me up for one for a boxxer.

With the mass of the bike plus the speed you get before the table, you can definitely break a direct mount stem. The bike landed on the bars. The rider's body weight didn't break the stem, it was the force from the bike on the bars that caused all the stress. Luckily the rider walked off... it sure was a terrible crash!

That tabletop is a skill jump. IMO, a jump is not too lippy if you can hit it at full speed and stay low and that is what I was doing. You can't have a super mellow lip and expect to clear 35 feet on a jump that size. To clear it, you had to boost it and that is where the risk/skill comes in.

Did you notice all those things before it that mother nature made? She didn't put perfect lips on any of them and yet everybody tried riding them too .

I am the mack daddy #1 worst jumper period and that jump was fine. No fixing needed.

As someone that wasn't jumping it either I think it's fine. It didn't buck you at all if you just tried to suck it up and people like gwin could probably clear it to flat as it is if they wanted. The only thing was if you were going the right speed and landed in the right spot it felt like you would kinda bounce back up and completely miss the lander and do a nice little huck to flat off the top of the table.

Just think of it as the on-off jump at crabtree minus the lander

Forget the finish line jump.... I heard some very odd stories of the course marshaling. One coming from my mom who doesn't know much about DH (get your salt shaker out), But I was pretty confused with the procedures she tried to explain that happened, and I think i might have talked to someone that was affected by the story she told me.


A question for Chris or Beechmtndh, What kind of training or info are the marshals provided with. I know it is new to everyone doing this type of thing but it seems there are a few hiccups that could be worked out.

Not to sh1t on anyone because it was about the most fun race i've had in a long time and I'll definitely be back, but there is always room for improvement. I had to get home to go feed my dog so i didn't have much time to spend submitting comments in person but it looks like beech is looking at this thread. (You all's race was great, just feel the need to nitpick on some stuff.)

There should be certain things on every track that only the top guys can dial.
If only 10% of the people can hit it properly, then that gives the other 90% something to progress toward. You got juniors around here talented enough to be on the world cup circuit in the future, and skill jumps like that one are good for their progress.

That said, I don't want this to turn into a negative thread, because what is going on at Beech right now is damn incredible for our sport here in the Southeast.

Also, the jump would have been MUCH easier if it were a bit more dry. I feel like I could have got it, but I was way too tired at the end of my run to try. If it were dry, I would have had zero issues hitting it.

So what would you change if you built it? The lip is not changing, its fine. I cased the crap out of it on my first few practice runs on Saturday, should I blame the jump or the soft dirt on the run-in or myself for not pedaling hard enough?

Also note that the last right berm and the big roller before it were still relatively fresh, and it rained the day before, and the fog all day was not letting it dry up any. Lots of things going against you when trying to clear it that day. Give it all some time to dry out really good and many more people will be clearing it as is.

I believe he has addressed that situation, and they have released new protocols which will go in place for nationals. Just a communication error, which I believe they have fixed. Actually working on a radio/ communication plan for nationals. Thanks for pointing that out.

Ive NEVER been to a race where everyone was happy.Its downhill racing ie:no whiners, suck it up and ride! Thanks to all involved in making a bikepark reaility in the south. The cost of the bike trays for the lift alone should earn the respect of the whole gravity scene. Soooo excited about the 2012 season!

Take a little off the peak on the landing, so if you come up 6 inches short it doesnt buck you over the bars like it did alot of people. Thanks for actually asking what I would change. I am not being negative at all just posting some room for improvement. It was a GREAT event and Chris did ask what needed improvement and that jump needs it. It will still be huge and hard to clear just safer...
